Prince George, B.C. - With news of David Shearing being allowed an escorted 4 hour leave today, the man who took Shearing into Custody, retired RCMP Officer Mike Eastham says this is one killing that will never leave his mind.
Speaking on the Meisner program this morning on CFIS FM, he told how Shearing ( who has since changed his name to Ennis) killed the Bentley and Johnson families in Wells Gray park in 1982., killed the parents and grandparents first , then molested the two little girls for 6-10 days before killing them as well.
“He killed them (the little girls) execution style, walking them into the bush and telling them to turn round because he wanted to take a pee, then shot them “
All of the bodies were put into the family car, the vehicle then put on a logging road near Clearwater and set ablaze.
Eastham says he still has nightmares about this case, “It always stays with you, and I can’t imagine what the relatives of the Bentley or Johnson’s have gone through”
While Shearing pleaded guilty to the killings, Eastham says there never seemed to be remorse “He never expressed an understanding of what he had done”
Shearing has been serving his life sentence at the Bowden prison in Red Deer. The National Parole Board has not said why the four hour leave has been granted, although it is not unusual for such leave to be granted because of medical or bereavement needs.
