4 P.G. Bars Hit With Violations

Prince George, B.C.- Four drinking establishments in Prince George are among hundreds throughout the province hit with penalties for violations.

The Liquor Control and Licensing Branch has released the results of 3,701 compliance-related inspections of liquor establishments in B.C. from April 1 to September 30th.

The province wide results include:

* $123,50 in fines and 273 days in licence suspensions;
* 314 alleged contraventions;
* 53 establishments receiving penalties; and
* Three licence cancellations.

Here are the issues facing four Prince George establishments:

what happens to the minors if the bar loses their licence for serving a minor. The minor knowingly walked into the bar knowing they were underage. Maybe the bar should be able to sue the minor for lost income. That should discorage minors from entering bars.

How about go after the real criminal, the person who enters a establishment that requires you to be 19, and using a fake ID also. Or pretend this is graduation and you are alowed to drink then, like when the police, school board, parents let kids drink in a gravel pits. So why now is it wrong to be drinking under the age of 19?

It is a violation of the liquor license to serve alcohol to a minor. That is the law, and if the business allows ita employees to break the law, then the business must take the consequences.

They can sue the minor if the want, although they may have to do it through the parents, who would almost certainly counter sue the business for illegally serving liquor to an underaged person, and they may win, too.

Still, there are always those who make excuses for greedy businessmen. After all, a buck is another buck in the bank. Bugger the kids, let them get drunk then drive away and kill themselves, and others. The business still has that buck in the bank. Good business, eh!

You cannot purchase cigarettes if you are under a certain age. Of course if you are twelve years old you can smoke. I like laws. They're cool.

Good to hear - the longer these crappy bars close the better - it would be nice to have at least one decent nightclub in Prince George..

Definition of "decent" being a club for those 40 and older - where being asked for an ID is a compliment.

Many years ago when we were in the bar under age,(or as it was known back then...the beer parlour)...we had a format.
If you got that first beer you tipped big and kept tipping and ordering.
The theory was,if you tipped big they would never card you.
And it usually worked everytime!
After a while,they got used to seeing you in there and never looked twice!
It is also interesting to note...beer was 5 glasses for a dollar!
I would imagine they are still playing the same game today,but the difference back then was it was the underage drinker who got nailed.
Just like you also got nailed for having booze if you were underage.
I got fined 50 dollars which was one hell of a lot of money back them.
I think we should bring those laws back!

how come the road house never gets violations i use to drink in there when i was 14 with my brothers id and all my cousins would pile into the station wagon with grama and we had down there and drink from 9 am to 3am then beat on white people that would be there for fun..good times..

ah yes Frank...the good old days...I remember them well!
I guess they never got nailed because the onus was on the drinker...not the bartenders and beer slingers.
How the hell did they screw that one up?
