Time to get a real job. And maybe find time to criticize other politicians and their shortcomings. Is great sport if ya don't have a life. Nice knowin' ya.
Too bad for Don. He would have made a great mayor. He doesn't stand on the fence, unlike Rogers.
Anyone hear any results for Mackenzie or Fort St.James?
Odd how a bigger place like PG can get their results out faster than little places like these!
Voters wanted change. No criticism of Don Zurowski. He was part of the old guard and the voters spoke. I congratulate Dan and the newcomers who will have an opportunity to affect change and a new direction. They are in the majority. I am happy with the outcome even though I didn't vote for all of them. Nice mix and nice changes.
Goodbye Don. Close the door behind you.
Thats what I like about people like Zurowski, the great Prince George City promoters. For years he has been telling us what a great City Prince George is etc; etc; etc;.
Now that he has got his butt kicked out of Council and the Mayors chair he is talking about leaving for P.A.

I wouldnt be suprised to hear the Kinsley is the next to leave town.

I agree with Chester insofar as the new Council is concerned. I didnt vote for all of them however it is certainly an improvement over the old. I would have loved to see Basserman out, however you cant win them all.
Exactly Chester. I honestly thought that the mayor race would be allot closer than it was but in the end it was pretty much a stomping by Rogers.

Interesting times are ahead for PG and unlike the immediate past, I'm excited and optimistic that this group can accomplish some good things for PG.

Rogers just plain outworked him. Zurowski acted like he was a sure thing, punctuated by his resignation at Community Futures about 8 months too early.
I wouldnt exactly call Dan "the new guard". After a narrow loss 4 years ago, he chose to stay in PG. I'm not sure Id say he was looking backwards.
Excellent outcome! I voted for Rogers and most of the councillors, still all you Opinion 250 contributers (all 25 of you) will be slamming mayor and council within days for their poor job done. No matter who's in there, you'll NEVER be happy!

Good luck Dan, you'll do a great job.
Beat it Donie, I hope you hate PG and never come back. loser.
Where is P.A.? Can a politician be any more vague. Another good reason we did not elect this clown. later nerd.
finally the days of colin and his merry band of idiots are done. The red faced council meetings are over. So long free beer at every pub in town. Enjoy kelowna colin.
Andyfreeze - Mackenze unofficial results

What a nice surprise!
Dan will be a wonderful mayor, and the 50/50 mix for council.......excellent! What a fabulous outcome!

To all those who threw themselves to the wolves, you have earned my respect and admiration, even if you did not get my vote.
Campaigning as a candidate is not for the faint of heart. Here's hoping you have some extended R & R.

Happy Sunday!

Oh, quick US to Canada translation:
PA, or P.A. is Pennsylvania.

I believe that Don is headed to Pennsylvania. Lucky him. I was in Philadelphia this summer and boy are they ecited about their Joey! Joe Biden is originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania.
(Arizona: Joe Biden will be inaugurated as the vice president of the United States in Jan 09 along with the president select: Barack Obama. It would be a great time to be in that state!

Thanks for the laugh Arizona. most folks from Canuckistan are fairly good with their geography!

Cheers.

I don't understand what the excitement is about? As a matter of fact I am a little concerned that people think that any city council can actually "do things".

The only money council has, or can spend, is taxpayers money. So if council is going to do things, we can expect to pay more taxes - forever.

The only thing council can do is support and approve new projects and rezonings for new private investments. So do you people think the last council and mayor were discouraging investment in PG?

Lots of private money is flowing into the USA housing market right now as people snap up bargins in the warm tourist areas. And it is not a particularly good time to invest in PG.

City council had better be putting on their best lipstick and smile if there is anyone coming before council that is looking to invest in PG over the next three years. And I'm not too confident the new councillors and mayor will do either one.

Maybe we will see another run on the bank like Backhouse where the city spent city tax money by the truck load, and left us with the mess of fancy high maintainance buildings like the "Rack of Ribs" that we see today.

Is this the change that you are expecting???
Could P.A. be Prince Albert SK
or Port Alberni - or maybe Port Alice?
For me, I would like to thank all those that ran. It takes courage to put your name forward and it takes time and energy to attend all the forums, fill out questionnaires and generally make yourself available.
Thanks to all the candidates. It is a democracy and the people have spoken.
It is a good mix of Councillors and we now a great Mayor.
Thanks to Dan Zurowski for the past 9 years of service to the City and best wishes for a fulfilling future.
P.S. to johncameron, it was three years ago. Elections are every three years in P.G.
Thanks justathought.
The results are as I figured they would be!
PG = Pretty good

PA = Pennsylvania

P.A. is not

For those that have been further east than Jasper, P.A. is indeed Prince Albert, Sask.
If you say P.A. on the other side of the rocks they know what you’re talking about
sooooo

donnie loses and is going to pout and run home to mommies house in prince albert?

prince george first! haha.

before he leaves I hope he makes sure all his signs are picked up and not leave the mess to the taxpayers
Maybe Dan Rogers can hire Eugene as an executive adviser. To kinda help Dan if it looks like he's gonna dither. Buy him a suit and give him an honorarium. Fetterly answers are right but he doesn't have the politico to pull them off. Just a suggestion.
I think Chester said best...the voters wanted change, and for the most part, they got it.
Those who were not returned or didn't win, shouldn't feel too bad.
I am sure they all thought they were doing what was best and they should be commended for that.
In tough times,a change of faces and minds can make a big difference, and given the number of new faces here in the north,it would seem that's exactly what happened.
Those that just squeaked by in many communities should take note that people wanted a new direction and rightly so.
They would do well to listen to the voters.
Time to rethink where we are going and methods used perhaps.
No single person has the all answers, but a strong united voice can make a huge difference.
And sometimes a new direction as well.
I have always said that if we are to survive this downturn here in the north,it will be the people themselves that pull it off,not some giant elected ego sitting in Victoria.
If we are waiting for our present provincial government to do it for us,we will be waiting a very longtime!
Congratulations to all the winners and condolences to those that lost.... now we need to make some noise through-out all of northern B.C.
All we have is our voices.
arizona, you are an idiot. Maybe you should head to PA, or crawl back under a rock.
I think Dan will need to grow into this position, but I think he has the essentials. He is a good listener and I think he truly has the interest of the community at heart.
Good luck, Dan.
arizona, you are an idiot. Maybe you should head to PA, or crawl back under a rock.
As for Zurowski: Usually candidates who don't make it display more class. I didn't even hear him say that he is thanking all his supporters who voted for him.

It means that he is not going to give us another chance to make use of his talents.

We blew it.
And to all those that voted for Fetterley that always said what the most of us were thinking. Seems that most of us were not thinking like Fetterley.

Great new Mayor and Council. Great mix aswell. All I want to see is that council will govern like it should and to get the budget under control. I dont want to see anymore of the cup is half full stuff. Lets face reality.

And so long Donnie.

Cheers
Good to see that Dan Rogers got his well deserved victory. He worked hard for it.
Zurowski on the other hand got what he deserved. He asked for his loss with arrogant, rude selfish attitude.
Finally, the people were "speaking"
in this election. Thanks to all of us
who took the time and gave the support
to the ones we trusted the most.
I wish Glen and Kauk would made it,
maybe next time. We will watch very
closely, who will keep their promises
and work for/with us and if not, oh well.. we'll let them go next time and replace them with the ones who did not get the chance this time.
We can only go up from where we've been. Let's get behind these people and work to make PG a great place to live and be proud of - it's up to US.........

Congratulations to those who will now represent us. You did a great job, you showed professionalism, intelligence and commitment to what you believe. Good luck to you all.
