Good for Killam, she has worked hard and while nobody always does everything right, she has done her best.
It is a bit disturbing to look at the voter turnout in so many of the smaller northern communities that have been hit so hard:
Quesnel -3521 out of 7061 registered.
Vanderhoof -1367 out of 2765 voted.
Williams Lake - 2989 out of 8164
Fort St.James -520 out of 1120
We should assume that not all of the registered voters are still in town as
some of them would have already left to find work.
Two of the hardest hit are MacKenzie and Fort St.James.
I am not really suprised at the Fort St.James results, but I am suprised at the voter turnout, and as Sandra Harwood is a former mayor, she has already been tested.
The squeaky wheel DOES get the grease, and a strong voice is the only weapon they have.
No single person has the solutions, but a strong united voice can certianly make a difference.
The fact that so many northern communities have changed leadership is not suprising, considering what they are going through.
