Prince George, B.C.- The Chair of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP, Paul E. Kennedy, is expected to release his final report on the RCMP shooting of Kevin St. Arnaud, soon.
Spokesperson Nelson Kalil says the report is in the hands of the RCMP for review, and it is possible the report will be released before Christmas.
Kevin St. Arnaud was shot to death in a Vanderhoof soccer field late at night in December of 2004.
The officer who pulled the trigger has been investigated for comments made under oath during the Coroner’s inquest into St. Arnaud’s death. That file is in the hands of the Crown and a decision has yet to be made on possible perjury charges.

IMO Sherametta perjured his account for obvious reasons and the RCMP assisted in that process. So we have a number of crimes beyond the original shooting incident. How high up in the RCMP did the cover up planning go and should the RCMP not also be accountable to the same law as the general public when it comes to perjury. I think the reason the RCMP keep that man working is because it helps to build the RCMP case that their position taken was in good faith and not perjury to protect the 'image' of the force.
The RCMP will never admit when they or any of their members were wrong and as such they are an unaccountable force unless new regulations of public oversight are brought into law at minimum. This level of oversight for ethical operations and discipline is an essential aspect of any society that claims it is truly free and democratic.
I think we will see a well polished cover up report for the image of the RCMP. But the facts remain that it was the RCMP as an organization that took ownership of this tragedy and it is shameful when they try to fool people otherwise.
