Prince George, B.C.- The Chair of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP, Paul E. Kennedy, is expected to release his final report on the RCMP shooting of Kevin St. Arnaud, soon.

Spokesperson Nelson Kalil says the report is in the hands of the RCMP for review, and it is possible the report will be released   before Christmas.

Kevin St. Arnaud was shot to death in a Vanderhoof soccer field late at night in December of 2004.

The officer who pulled the trigger has been investigated for comments made under oath during the Coroner’s inquest into St. Arnaud’s death. That file is in the hands of the Crown and a decision   has yet to be made on possible perjury charges.

This is a very slow process when it take 4-years... lets hope that the report is thorough and credible for objectively looking at this case.

IMO Sherametta perjured his account for obvious reasons and the RCMP assisted in that process. So we have a number of crimes beyond the original shooting incident. How high up in the RCMP did the cover up planning go and should the RCMP not also be accountable to the same law as the general public when it comes to perjury. I think the reason the RCMP keep that man working is because it helps to build the RCMP case that their position taken was in good faith and not perjury to protect the 'image' of the force.

The RCMP will never admit when they or any of their members were wrong and as such they are an unaccountable force unless new regulations of public oversight are brought into law at minimum. This level of oversight for ethical operations and discipline is an essential aspect of any society that claims it is truly free and democratic.

I think we will see a well polished cover up report for the image of the RCMP. But the facts remain that it was the RCMP as an organization that took ownership of this tragedy and it is shameful when they try to fool people otherwise.
"Spokesperson Nelson Kalil says the report is in the hands of the RCMP for review, and it is possible the report will be released before Christmas."

Why has this report been handed over to the RCMP for review? Does it need editing for spelling and grammar? Or is it so the RCMP can prepare a statement in regards to the findings?

"That file is in the hands of the Crown and a decision has yet to be made on possible perjury charges."

A different file? Or is the Crown waiting for the RCMP edited version before prosecution? Does the Crown also get to review the report before the public. The Crown can't make a legal decision on its own?

What a mockery! For the public to have any faith in such a commission and its findings, the report has to be made public FIRST and foremost. This manouver only lends more doubt in the credibility and ability of complaints investigations.

It has taken four long agonizing years to get to this point. A simple investigation regarding a wrongful shooting and perjury. Perhaps the commission feels if you delay long enough the significance will be diminished. Well I hope they delay release until after Christmas, these findings may not be a welcome present for those affected. I hope I am wrong, but I have no faith or respect for the Canadian judicial system or its RCMP counterparts.
Four long years for this to go on is inexcusable, and I can't help but think that there is a reason for it to take that long.
Information becomes clouded over time, witnesses forget detals, and in the end it, all works in the cop's favour.
It has to change if the RCMP are ever to recover any of the respect they once had.
This is bogus.
We need to clean up the red tape and political bulls**t in ourjustice system!
We also need to be able to hold our law enforcement agencies accountable for their actions!
Civilian oversight IS the only solution.
And oh ya...5 will get you 10 what the results of this investigation will be!
The cop will walk, but he will be dismissed from the force...and that will be the end of it.
Don't worry you guys, everyone gets what they deserve. Isn't that what trollunderthebridge or one of those guys told me about a year ago?
The body/brain wasn't designed to live with lies this severe. It's like the ones who lie have shot themselves but it's taking longer for their blood to drain.

They exchanged years off of their lives for hopes of public acceptance. So even if guys like Sheremetta are only fired from the force they still have done themselves in.
oh p.s. pisspulper my sister loves you!
Any soldier will tell you that when you take a life, a part of you dies as well. That's why we don't tend to go around wasting people arbitrarily. The people responsible for wrongful, unjust deaths will live a tormented life, forever torn up inside over what they genuinely know to be the truth.

Whatever action is taken at this late date is inconsequential, and it is far too late to have handled it appropriately or justly.

This case will forever be a peephole into the inner workings of a well oiled political machine.
Heidi, I love your sister too! ;)
four years later, and still nothing.

What did Kevin St Arnaud do to get himself shot at by the RCMP?
OK, he was in the Pharmacy and was a robbery suspect. Did a robbery occur? If he robbed the Pharmacy wouldn't the product or money he took from the Pharmacy be with him. Was it ever proven that he robbed the Pharmacy?

Obviously from the evidence of the angle of the shots entering his body, he was not in a position to threaten a trained RCMP officer. Thus the RCMP officer was too trigger happy, and was hoping that all his buddies will support a made up story of self defence.

There are a lot of RCMP officers that have lost there lives to fight crime, but they signed up to protect the innocent. This includes St Arnaud. he was not proven to be a criminal, just intoxicated. He was obviously in a physical position of superiority over St. Arnaud, he should have knocked him down and then just pulled the gun out only. If he threatened, shoot him in the leg and called for assistance. Three shots, at a person, is not to subdue the victim, it is to kill him.
It is often satisfying to believe that those who kill other people live a tormented life, but I do not believe that to be true. There may be a few people like that, but history is full of others who lived satisfyling and full lives after killing other people, particularly when they considered those people to be greatly inferior.

Look at the history of kings, the inquisition and heretic burnings, soldiers in war, slave owners and killing of slaves, present day rape-murders and a host of other things. It would be just if it were true, but I fear it is not.
RCMP are trained to shoot "center of mass" or in other words shoot to kill, not to wound.
Ammonra, I was speaking on the presupposition that we are discussing someone who has a conscience and otherwise makes every attempt to do the right thing.
the reason it took so long is simple. MONEY
lawyers make money on cases like these and the longer it takes the more that they make
Nobody has mentioned the name Colleen Erickson, the female Mountie with 24 years experience who disputed Sherametta,s version of the happening.
She has been quickly GAGED, and EXILED to work for an First Nations Band and not to speak of the matter.
Little wonder we have lost faith in what used to be a very respected police force.

Lies, cover up's and inside corruption.
You can't even speak Polish in the Vancouver Air Port anymore.
I want King of the Royal Mounted back!

Colleen Erickson is a decent person and a straight up, honest cop.
IMO,this farce has literally destroyed her career and that is criminal in itself, not to mention the stress level involved.
And she had nothing to do with the actual shooting, other than being a witness and trying to tell the truth.
Obviously, nobody wanted to hear the truth.
I would sincerely hope that she does NOT accept that, and takes those to task that caused this.
But then again, they will proabaly bury that too, like they do everything else.
This is a disgusting performance by the RCMP!
Yes, this incident has hurt a lot of people full circle. Constable Erickson will always have my respect for her courage and honesty. I really hope she has learned to deal with that stress because she doesn't deserve to be taken down by "those guys" involved.
