Prince George, B.C.- Won’t be long before there will be free parking in downtown Prince George, and the meters will be removed.

Earlier this week Council   gave final approval to a bylaw that clears the way for the removal of the meters, and lays out a new fine schedule.

While the new free two hour parking and new fines take effect in the new year, there will be two hour free parking in downtown effective November 28th through to January 2nd as part of the Festival of Lights  and Christmas season.

The rules are, park free for two hours, but tires will be chalked and those vehicles not moved after two hours will be ticketed.

In the new year, the fines jump. You will have to pay $25 dollars for offences called “A” Offences, including:

  • Park on boulevard

The meters that I see around 6th and Victoria are constantly broken into. Who is the genius that keeps fixing them or replacing them when they are going to be removed shortly anyway?
That would be the geniuses at city hall, who also happen to have hundreds and hundreds of other broken systems that waste our tax dollars.
Who will enforce the new bylaw?

Cheers
I guess the "fire lane" parkers at Pine Centre and Stupidstore are exempt because they are on private property?
What if one day I decided to work on my stored truck in my driveway and I decided to grease it paint it and repair it? Wreck that it is. Is that 5 $25 dollar fines or just one $25 dollar fine? And if I had a for sale sign on it? Would that be another $25 bucks?
15 parking sins/commandments to remember!

Reminds me of Mel Brook's movie with Moses coming down from the mountain carrying the three tablets with the fifteen commandments!

Geez!

You can be sure that however it works out, it will get more of your money out of your pockets and into the cities coffers than they received from you when they were using parking meters.

It's not really such a great thing that they are getting rid of these meters, but it sure sounds like a positive thing, doesn't it?
