Victoria, B.C.- He's Back.   David Emerson, the former CEO of Canfor, then  Liberal turned Tory,  has a new job.

The former Federal Cabinet Minister  will serve as the new executive chair of the British Columbia Transmission Corporation, presiding over the board of directors and assuming the responsibilities of the chief executive officer.

minister to the Premier in the government of British Columbia. He was first CEO of the Vancouver International Airport Authority, and served as president and CEO of Canfor prior to being elected as a federal MP
for Vancouver.

"The British Columbia Transmission Corporation is a critical part of B.C.'s energy strategy," said Emerson. "British Columbia is already a North American leader in clean energy generation and transmission. I am
looking forward to working closely with BC Hydro in further developing our province's potential in opening up new opportunities for investment and family supporting jobs in clean energy. "I welcome the opportunity to work with the highly skilled employees at the BC Transmission Corporation in developing cost-effective electricity transmission for B.C. residents, businesses and industry."

Emerson adds, "We have enormous challenges in meeting British Columbian's future transmission needs, but also terrific opportunities for new solutions that will turn our province into a true energy powerhouse."

"I am looking forward to working closely with BC Hydro in further developing our province's potential in opening up new opportunities for investment".

Is this a tip off that the BC Transmission Corporation is now looking to private investers to invest in electrical transmission? It was my understanding that this was one of the core services of BC Hydro that we were promised would not be privatised. Has this changed? If it hasn't changed, why would he be working on investment?
By the way, jobs for the boys, obviously.
It was a big mistake creating BCTC. There is a lot of duplication between BCTC and Hydro. Also lots of infighting.
Funny, why didn't Jimmy pick him up as his right hand man. He has the experience to do the job.
BCTC Already has a President and Chief Executive Officer. So it appears that this is a job created for ***good old boy*** David Emerson;

How soon we forget.
'We' had nothing to say about it Palo.
The old boys network is alive and well, but they themselves would say no, the cream always rises to the top don't you know. The BCTC is a crock, I believe it was created to facilitate privatizing our last venerable institution; BC Hydro.
metalman.
"PORK" nuff said
Oh my God, here we go again. Sometimes it is too bad we live in Canada. In more volitale states, this guy would be dodging bullets, not getting mega paychecks.
If you want to see what he will be up to check out this:

Who says it doesn't pay to network eh?
We're doomed, watch your Hydro bill triple.
This 'BC Transmission Corporation' new BC liberal reality is all about the privatization of the end users monthly bill, shifting transmission costs from the urban to the rural, and facilitating a highest cost private production system. I think if I said that was a fact even the proponents of this privatization time-line could only say 'but and if' but not directly say the statement is not true.

It says a lot about the current state of how our democracy works.

The privatization IMO is about ensuring BC loses its sovereignty over its energy resource to 'corporate' shareholders foreign and domestic that will make profits from BC's crown resources... while the people in BC under treaties like NAFTA will be forced to freeze in the dark if we can't pay the same for carbon free hydro as a Yanki bankster dollar can pay for that same finite resource.

David Emerson is the one designated to make it happen it appears. It was probably his idea to begin with... he has the foreign trade connections.

IMO the BC liberals are running a corporate privatize everything agenda to the detriment of BC's sovereign advantage we once had. The crown is for sale everywhere you look to finance a subsidized new rich in Vancouver and their 2-week party in 2010. For them it is party time as long as they still have things to sell off before 2010... then we will all be taxed for the short fall because corporations only pass the tax on to us anyways, so they say its 'more efficient' to just tax the people...just not the energy exports of the corporations....

Time Will Tell
Where is Paul Nettleton when we need him. remember he was removed from the BC Liberals for speaking out against the privatization of BC Hydro.
Watch your electricity bills skyrocket!
Paul Nettleton has been working as a Poverty Lawyer for Legal Services of Nunavut commencing in 2006. In 2008 he was promoted to Executive Director for Legal Services ofNunavut where he is responsible for the delivery of legal services throughout the entire territory. He presently resides in the capital Iqaluit with his wife and children.
Thats interesting Palopu... thanks.

Good for Paul I say, because thats a really important position in this country right now. I think he was a class act way better then TILM Rustad and its too bad he choose to run in a new riding. But I think he want to lose fighting the good fight knowing he clearly had no more leverage in that Parliament of misfit party people...
