PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Spruce Kings are excited to announce that defenceman, Wes McLeod has been named to Team West of the 2008 CJHL Prospects game.

The fourth annual prospects game is a showcase of the best draft eligible Junior A hockey players in Canada and attracts scouts from NHL Central Scouting, all teams in the National Hockey League as well as independent scouting agencies.

Currently playing in his second season with the Spruce Kings, Wes McLeod is second in scoring among defenceman with two goals and seventeen helpers in 26 games with 26 penalty minutes. McLeod committed to a four year scholarship at the University of Alaska Anchorage and was listed as a ‘B’ list prospect by NHL Central Scouting in October. McLeod is one of five players and the only defenceman from the BCHL on the twenty man roster made up of players from the five western leagues in the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL).

“I’m excited for the chance to play in the CJHL Prospects game,” said Wes McLeod. “Only a handful of players have this opportunity and I’m fortunate to be one of them. I’m going to do my best to represent myself, the Prince George Spruce Kings and the BCHL at the game.”

“This is a great opportunity for Wes to showcase his abilities as a premiere defenceman in the BCHL,” says Spruce Kings Assistant General Manager, Mike Hawes. “It also gives him an opportunity to use this game as a measuring stick as he will be playing against other highly rated NHL Draft prospects.”

The CJHL Prospects Game will be played in Summerside, PEI on December 17 with a skills competition on December 16. Wes McLeod is not expected to miss any games with the Spruce Kings and will join his team for the start of their Island road trip against the Cowichan Valley Capitals on December 18.
