Constable Held watches the front door of a building as police wait for a search warrant to be delivered

Prince George, B.C.- RCMP in Prince George are waiting for a warrant to be delivered so they can search a building on Quebec Street. Police suspect there is a grow op in the building.

Earlier today, a man driving in the laneway near 3rd and Dominion was robbed. He told police a woman jumped into his vehicle, pressed what he believed to be a weapon against his side, and took off with a bank deposit bag. He exited the vehicle where he was confronted by another female and a male. The man then retreated and called 9-1-1.

Police arrived on the scene with a tracking dog which picked up a scent .  The dog lead  officers to 197 Quebec Street.   It is there that police spotted something which made them suspect there may be a marijuana grow op in the building.

Should burn that building down. Will clean up the downtown a little more.
I've driven by this place for years and always wondered, what is the 'Chee Duck Tong Society?'

"Onto another subject, does anyone know what the hell is going on inside the building on Quebec Street (pretty sure it's Quebec) where the Chee Duck Tong Society is located?

Every single day now for about two weeks (I work downtown so I get to see that area), I've noticed loads of people going in and out of that building on a regular basis. Usually walking, sometimes dropped off by cabs but almost always high as a kite when they leave the building. I've had 2 or 3 people almost walk into the side of my car as they leave the building and I'm driving down Quebec Street and it's obvious they are oblivious to what's going on. Let's also just say that the crowd going in and out of there are not folks that you would approach to ask for the time. Perhaps the RCMP should take a walk down there and see what's going on. Given what I've seen, I'd suggest going in with at least 4 or 5 guys with hands on the hip just to be ready. I don't think it's your average squatting location."

The world needs more observant people to point this stuff out - its easy to remain silent and then complain about it later. I dont know if NMG's post had anything to with this but I would sure like to believe it did.
Good for the cops for getting this place shut down. Hopefully it stays that way.
Back in the late fifties and early sixties this building was still called the Chee Duck Tong Society, and was a rooming house. In addition is was somewhat of a gambling establishment run by Chinese. They played Ma Jong for big dollars.

Gambling was illegal and the police would raid the building from time to time, and a fine would be assessed, but for the most part they were left alone.

Cant say what it is used for to-day.
S/B Mahjong
Probably someone growing bamboo to make flooring with so that we do not have to import it from China.
Looks to me like Constable Held grabbed the shortest straw. What a wonderful world. Like the song says. Oh yeah "and pressed what seemed to be a weapon against his side". If it was a woman making that claim she would phrase it...
they just needed a reason to get a warrant so they made the story up of the gun its pretty common police practices
I can't help myself......I wonder if they posted anyone on the back door!
Probably some Greek cop.
This place is so disgusting inside. I was in there this summer and yuck.Five minutes in there and I had to disinfect everything I was wearing. The "rooms" if you could call them that are so small and just gross. Full of crack heads. And they pay $400.00 a month to live there. Hope they close it down.
Government subsidized, drug dealers housing! How do you like your tax dollars spent???

I agree, bring a wrecking ball in!! We are spending $8,000,000.00 on a homeless shelter on Queensway. Wayyyyyyyyyy over priced, and will, I am sure turn into a "Chee Duck Tong Society" building, only newer!

When they renovated the "old liquor store" on 6th, great idea, but look what you have hanging around outside. I have personally taken fares down there to buy there drugs. I am not supposed to know what is going on, but I am not a stupid person!!

We, as a society, have become enablers to bad behavior! The bleeding hearts, should be forced to take care of these folks, the ones, that do not want to conform to society!

I suggest a camp, deep into the wilderness of the NWT, a 1000 miles from anywhere. Perfect, both sides will get a reality check. Should also send some judges there too.

People, quit sugar coating everything!!

electricity, gas, rope or dope, deal with it!! The death penalty and birth control, sometimes come hand, in hand!!
