Prince George, B.C.- The  new  airline, Enerjet, which Opinion 250 wrote about last week, (see previous story) has achieved two significant milestones.

First, the award of an Air Operators Certificate (AOC) by Transport Canada, acknowledging Enerjet's completion of all the technical and safety requirements necessary to operate a commercial air operation in Canada. Secondly, the award of an Air Operators License issued by the Canadian Transportation Agency. The license authenticates that Enerjet has met the rigorous ownership requirements which assure Canadians of a financially sound air travel provider. The achievement of these milestones means that Enerjet is now open for business to charter its Boeing 737-700 Next-Generation aircraft.

According to Enerjet President and CEO Tim Morgan, the application process went smoothly. "We were impressed with the effectiveness and efficiency with which Transport Canada and the Canadian Transportation Agency handled our application, and with the superior work of our own expert staff. The outcomes of this work set a high standard for enabling a safe, reliable carrier in a reasonable time frame."

The business case for Enerjet is to link workers with  industry.  A company would charter the jet to carry its workforce from a community  to the work area.

I see Captain Morgan is back in the cockpit.Great,I flew with him years ago all over western Canada in single engine and twins. Then onto Westjet and now Enerjet.Great Good luck.
Some interesting comments from Enerjet's Bill Lamberton VP Marketing and Sales.

Privately held Enerjet has two leased Boeing 737-700 next generation aircraft.

Enerjet is eyeing large industrial projects, given it has 130 seats to fill on each of its aircraft. The company wants to offer charter service to Alberta oil sands. The plan is to charter the entire aircdraft instead of selling seats one at a time.

Tim Morgan Enerjet President stated that Enerjet is looking at the amount of labour expected to move from Eastern Canada to Alberta to sate the needs of industrial projects five to 10 years out.

The idea is to utilize the aircraft for industrial traffic Monday through Thursday, and for the tourism sector Thursday through Sunday.

Wonder how much the city is going to have to kick in for this one?
It is a great idea......but i still wonder...

Did anyone notice that the article states

***From EASTERN CANADA to ALBERTA****

If this is so, then I doubt this City, or this Airport would be involved. Remember at this time they have only two jets, and part of their operation will be chartering tourists, so I expect we wont see them in this part of the country.
good point Palopu..
easier to fly out of Vancouver?
Launched by a couple of former Westjet executives? Well, that probably gives them some credibility in the eyes of Transport Canada. They have already proven themselves and know the business. Good for them to identify a niche market and serve it.
