Prince George, B.C. - All I want for Christmas is….. a goat?

International students at the College of New Caledonia are inviting you to buy gifts that matter for needy people in southern India.

Students will be accepting donations at their booth in the CNC Atrium from 11:30 – 12:30 Monday through Friday now through to December 12th.

For $20 dollars, you can buy a pair of crutches for a disabled person, $100 dollars can buy a wheelchair or hearing aid, and for $75 dollars, you can buy a goat.

The project has been organized by the Samuha Overseas Development Association, a local non profit group that provides physiotherapy and rehabilitation services to the poorest of the poor in southern India.
Donations over $20 dollars qualify for a charitable tax receipt.

Ok, comments.

$20 for crutches, wow, that is cheap
$100 for a wheelchair, reasonable
$75 for a goat.

for under $200 you could give him an option to use his crutches around his home, wheelchair around outside, or take the goat into town.

how much for a sheep.

I like these kinds of charities, but one still wonders who pays the overhead to administer the program.

What would be really nice is if a country like India could pay the full cost of the overhead to administer programs like this, so a donor can know for sure 100% of their gift is a gift. I guess one could say our tax write off covers the overhead and thats how I sometimes justify that aspect of donating... but it should be the receiving country covering those costs IMO.

I often buy chickens because they don't cost much at all for 3rd world families in Africa when I donate. One chicken can provide a family with the needed protein it needs on a continuous basis.
