Klappan Gas Exploration Put On Hold For Two Years

Smithers - Shell Canada is pulling back from its exploration in the Klappan area. Richard Neufeld, Minister of Energy and Mines said today that a two year moratorium will be put in place to allow for more discussions with First Nations on the project.
The Tahltan have opposed the project and the exploratory drilling that is taking place since the project began.
At the same time the Minister announced that the Mist Mountain Project in the East Kootenay has been awarded to BP Canada. This project according to the government comes after consultation with first nations and others in the area.
