Prince George, B.C.- Two new highway web cams have been added to the Drive BC website.

The two highway cams will give you a better idea of road conditions on highway 97 through the Pine Pass and from Chetwynd to Dawson Creek.

One camera has been added at the Powder King Junction of Highway 97, facing north.  (see photo at right) Daylight hours should give drivers an idea of road and weather conditions heading into the Pine Pass.

The second camera has been added in Chetwynd, near on Highway 97 at Wabi Estates Road, looking east.  (see photo at left).

You can check any of the highway web cams by visiting www.drivebc.ca

Hmmm..do more highway cams mean they can get away with less maintenance out there?
Sure seems like it!
I would think more cameras would mean the Government can actually see who is, or isn't, doing the maintenance they are being paid to do!
Looks like there is a lot of traffic on the clear road. We have to get that highway 4-laned as soon as possible otherwise people will go via Jasper to avoid the traffic jams.
I you only plow what the camera sees, all is well.
A friend of mine used the drive b.c. website a few weeks ago and all indications the road conditions were clear with some slippery sections...her reward for trusting this website was flipping on her roof due to atrocious road conditions. She admits she should have been travelling slower than 60kmph.
Environment canada has this great technology called radar imagary. Anyone can access this and it usually gives people a fair warning of potential snowfall in advance...makes me wonder if YRB uses this.
I know HMC monitors the radar images from environment Canada in Quesnel and they are on the spot before the snow falls. Not sure why YRB doesn't, or if its just a dispatch issue?

People that use the drive BC website to determine whether or not to drive are the type of people that should be banned from winter driving.

Do you really think her reward for using this site was her crash? I think most would offer her incompetent driving skills and the use of anything other than her brain was the cause of her reward.

Lostfaith...She fully blames herself for her accident and fully admits to not like driving on the highway at all in the winter but took a chance based on the information provided on drive b.c. She will from now on take the train or bus.
If the drive b.c. website had said the conditions were bad she wouldn't have driven at all.
I think this website usually provides good information on highway conditions but in this case they were wrong or behind.

I'm sure Lostfaith has never been in an accident due to his/her incompetent driving skills or the use of anything other than his/her brain. Someone has to be the best driver on the planet I guess.
Some canadian road condition clips have been compiled in to a list and shared at:

Thats right hindsight, 32 years behind the wheel without an incident. 5 years as a class one driver as well. Not too many of us out here that can say that.
