I don't understand the 24 hour roadside driving prohibition...either you are impaired or not...it should be an impaired driving charge. I have to wonder when are these morons going to learn that getting an impaired charge is the least of what could happen when driving under the influence. They could take out an entire family and they would probably live...try living w/ that forever??? Not to mention you would probably be sued and you would pay for the rest of your life. Stay off the roads if you want to drink...PG does have a cab company and red nose, keys please...grow up and get some responsibility, most people do not have the patience for drunk drivers - I would never let a friend get behind the wheel, make plans on how to get home BEFORE you lose your judgement, give someone you trust your keys...do something besides drink and drive.
most of the time the sober driver causes the accidents and they just blame the other person because he is drunk
Frank please talk when you have a good comment.
a 24 hour suspension is given if the officer knows that the driver has been drinking but in all proablity a drunk driving charge would not stand up in court
In most cases it is a good wake-up to reality
what is an administrative driving prohibition
There is some validity to Franks statement. I talked to an individual years ago, who told me that he had driven through a red light, however he was lucky because the guy he hit was impaired, and he blamed it on him. As a result the impaired guy was charged.

One third of all accidents are caused by people who are impaired. This means that two thirds are caused by sober drivers. Interesting statistic.

Another interesting point is that if you blow more than .08 on the breath analyzer you are considered to be impaired. In actual fact most people would not be impaired at .08. When they first brought in the breath analyzer they were going to set impaired at .12, however because of the hue and cry from MADD etc., it was set at .08. Whether you are impaired or not at .08 depends on your metabolism etc;, hence the reason for road side suspensions.

Another reason for roadside suspensions, is to keep people out of jail. If every one who was over .08 was charged, and put in jail for 14 days for their second offence the jails would be over flowing. This has happened in the past., and people were doing their 14 days at home with an ankle bracelet, or doing their time on the week-ends.

The number of people stopped in roadside checks are a very small number of the total that are driving under the influence at any given moment.

The best the Police can do is to try to keep the real dangerous drivers off the roads.
I'm sorry but to blame sober drivers for drunken drivers is insane. Yes, there are bad sober drivers but if that drunk driver had not been on the road, there would not have been an accident (at least not at that light) or had he been sober he (or she) would have had better/faster reflexes and perhaps it would have been avoided. There is no excuse or arugument that makes drinking and driving a good choice.
Robichal. The sober driver ran the red light, if he had not hit the impaired driver, then he may very will have hit someone else. Bottom line is he ran the light, lied about it, and the impaired driver was charged.

No one is supporting drinking and driving, however people should be aware that those that are caught are a very small portion of the number of impaired drivers on the roads.

The latest gimmick is the contraption that compels an impaired driver to blow into before he can start his vehicle. While this might have some limited benefit because it somewhat restricts impaired drivers that were previously convicted, it is absolutely useless for those who have been driving impaired for years, that have never been caught.

If you want to ensure that the system works in everybodys interest, then all drivers should be compelled to **blow** not just those that were caught.
Downotout: An administrative driving prohibition (ADP) is am automatic three month prohibition which is put in place against a driver who blows over .08 on the datamaster (breathalyser). There is usually a 2-3 month waiting period for the impaired/+.08 criminal charge to get to court, so the superintendent of motor vehicles decrees that you cannot drive for three months. It kicks in about 3 weeks after you get hauled in for impaired and are served your paperwork at the police station. Your license is taken away and you are given a blue piece of paper which is the administrative prohibition and it also doubles as your temporary drivers license until the ADP kicks in.
rizzo is obviously on something other than booze. One cannot be such an idiot without being mentally unstable.
