Prince George, B.C.- Work continues in the Renshaw area north of McBride to free two horses trapped in 7 feet of snow.
With 200 meters left to dig in what has become a 7 foot deep, 1 kilometre long trench, there is still a rugged journey for the two horses.
If the animals can move along the trench to a groomed trail, then the animals have another 25 kilometers before they will be in a safe place. There are some options being considered to move the animals but nothing those doing the digging want to talk about at the moment. The priority is to get behind the shovel and dig.
Alison Schreiber says while there are many of the snowmobilers who have been laid off, they are still heading to the site every day to try and dig these animals out.
The SPCA has started an investigation into how the two horses ended up in the area and if there are grounds for charges, the Crown will be asked to press charges.
Alison doesn’t want to talk about how the animals ended up being in this predicament “There are a lot of rumours, but I am sure it will eventually get sorted out. Right now, the only thing that is important is getting those horses to safety.”
