Student Francisco Olivares listens to his wife's abdomen while she displays a baby outfit purshased with the excess dollars donated to get Fransisco home.
Puebla, Mexico - It took a CNC international student 28 hours to travel from Prince George to Puebla, Mexico, to join his pregnant wife for Christmas.
But Francisco Olivares said it was all worth it when she said: “Mi amor estas loco,” which is “My love you are crazy,” said Olivares, who surprised his wife, Dalia, who is five months pregnant.
“She cried because she was worried that I was not talking to her for almost a day and a half,” said Olivares, who didn’t want to call her while traveling and ruin the surprise.
“She said ‘I love you so much and thanks for being here,’” Olivares said in an email from Mexico on Tuesday. “I was so excited, too and finally I touched my baby and my wife.”
Dalia left Prince George earlier in December so she could be with family for Christmas, but the couple didn’t have enough money for Francisco to join her, until local donors raised more than $2,500 in two days to send him home for the holidays.
Olivares said even though he hadn’t slept in more than a day, the couple went out Christmas shopping to buy a few things for the baby with the money from generous Prince George donors, who gave more than he needed for the flights and trip on a “chicken bus.”
“We are looking for clothes, baby blankets, shoes and a Mexican poncho for the new baby,” he said. “My best wishes for Christmas to all people involved in this Christmas adventure. Because of you I am going to have the best Christmas that I ever had in my whole life,” said the proud father to be.
“I do believe Canadians are such a great people … I want to become Canadian and stay there for a long time.”
