So much for the governments BS on global warming....
You can get more snow with global warming.
Why this announcement so delayed ? The blizzard was already here before this was announced. Is this another case of cut backs and no one working during the holidays cause that would cost extra money. I have family traveling in this storm and yet when we checked all the various web sites before they left, not a word of any of this. Given that the road contractors won't be out working either this is going to be a disastrous trip for them to get home.
There is a huge green patch of radar identified precipitation from about Canim Lake south to the US border as I write this. It follows Canim Lake, Kamloops, Kelowna down to Rock Creek at the 33/3 intersection. It shows up on Google Earth which has a weather overlay.

Happy skiers in the Okanagan region!!

Similar sized patch over the lower mainland.

Scattered patches over the Rockies from Jasper to south of Banff.

The patch ot the south of us is about 350 km long and 150 km wide at the widest point over the Okanagan.

I guess this is for the readers to the south of PG.

Extremes in weather patterns are supposed to be side effects of global warming, no matter whether mankind is contributing to global warming or not.

We have been setting many records lately. Driest ever, warmest ever, coldest ever, wettest ever, windiest ever and so forth.

It's happening all over the world. Hurricanes in Europe in places where there is no record of any previous hurricanes, etc.

Why is that? Just wondering.
Our planet is definitely changing call it what you will.
For me, I think there is too much plastic which is made from petroleum.
I am not in control I just try to use cloth bags for shopping.
Not much help for the planet but I get lost in what I can do to help.
Man-made or not, global warming and cooling are a fact of nature. Relative to previosu long term (century) trends, we are in a warming cycle, no matter how caused.

We are in a warming cycleThe fact that we are now in a warming.

Sometimes wikipedia is a good starting source fro an overview. I think this is one of those cases.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming

According to the above, here are some of the "likely" outcomes of the warming effect over the next century and more.

"Increasing global temperature will cause sea levels to rise and will change the amount and pattern of precipitation, likely including an expanse of the subtropical desert regions.Other likely effects include increases in the intensity of extreme weather events, changes in agricultural yields, modifications of trade routes, glacier retreat, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors."

As I understand it, the greenhouse effect tends to flatten out extremes of temperatures - thus hot summer days from the past tend to be cooler and cold winter days from the past tend to be warmer. In addition, there is an increase in vaporization of water which causes an increase in precipitation. The changes are regional, varying up and down from one part of the globe to another.

Just remember, we have been through a series of cold weather days recently. I have not seen any -40 degree nights and most certainly no -40 degree clear days. It just is not as cold as it used to be a couple of decades ago. The last nice hot summer we had was 1998. We may not get any more of those either in the near future.
Just got back from Wells/Barkerville. Awesome day, lots of snow, played all day!
People should expect to have troublesome conditions on the roads this time of year. If they don't, and expect to drive like it's summertime, they will become the statistic, ie: missing on a wintertime drive, causing accident, etc, etc...

Its not this government's (nor any government) duty to protect people from themselves. People have to take responsibility for their own actions. If there is one thing the government is to blame for, it is the education system of the past 30 years, which teaches the kids they are not to blame for things, and by extension, have no responsibility. This forms part of their life actions, and then you see and hear comments about how the highways dept isn't ploughing snow, which causes people to have a rough time of it on the roads, etc.

Sheeple, wake up! We are responsible for our actions. Don't do stupid things (ie: things beyond your control), or bad things can and will happen to you.

Have a safe, responsible New Year, and health and prosperity come your way.
People have been predicting doom and gloom about the weather for millenia. The same burlap-clad climate change crazies have been around as long as anyone can remember. But they are still full of hot air.
