Prince George, B.C. -  The Salvation Army Kettle Campaign has surpassed its goal for 2008 of $225,000 dollars.

The kettle drive, which last year received $ 203,000, had hoped to raise $225,000 dollars to look after over 1800 people in the community.

The wide spread community support included one check from an unidentified individual of $2500.00 dollars.

Salvation Army officials say they are overjoyed with the support that they received from this community in tough economic times.

The Salvation Army will have to wait until the bank reopens on Monday  to find out the  exact total.

Every year we hear about how the Sally Ann is significantly behind their targets for the year.

And then we hear that they have surpassed their goal. This happens EVERY year.

As if they don't know their donation curve isn't linear.

Shame on the Sally Ann for their yearly manipulation. We have enough of that by everyone else during the holiday season. Here's just another reason to dislike this time of year.
Congrats to the Sally Ann-and congrats to those in the area who contribute each year. It makes me proud to live in a city that is so willing to give each year. And bohemian, Merry Christmas to you, anyway.
Bohemian, the Sally Ann helps anyone in need, including those who don't like the the Sally Ann very much. No questions asked.

I participated with the Sally-Ann kettle program this year, with the intent of helping brighten less fortunate peoples Christmas. The Sally-Ann is the last organization that deserves criticism; furthermore, Sally-Ann relies on Christmas money for sustaining hampers and baskets throughout the whole year.
So thank-you, everyone for putting money in the kettles, and I will happily be out again next year!
Merry Christmas
Way to go Sally-Ann for another successful campaign! You folks do a great job in our community, and throughout the world.

And as for bohemian, I guess we should just pray for you, pray that you never have to look for a handout.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year one and all, even you bohemian.
Even though it's the same story every year, (they're behind then they catch up), I don't mind hearing it because if they didn't stay in the news, people would not know if they met their targets and just walk by the kettles thinking someone else would pick up the slack.

Way to go Sally Ann... you do great work in this town.
The Salvation Army is a mega buck corporation. Betcha ya din't know that, eh?
I should hope so, Harb, considering all the people they help.
I didn't say the Sally Ann didn't do good work. I said the way they run the PR on this particular program is manipulative.

The local United Way also does a tremendous job each year with a yearly fund raising campaign, and their member agencies do a lot of good for those in need as well, no questions asked.

But they are forthright with their goal and progress each year. Perhaps the Sally Ann can try that next year.
"But they are forthright with their goal and progress each year. Perhaps the Sally Ann can try that next year."

The Salvation army IS very open with their goals for the kettle campaign and the progress of it as well. We receive news releases from them at the radio stations at least 3 times a week giving us updates on their progress, their need for volunteers, and exactly how much they are hoping to raise. There is no manipulation at all.

Prince George always comes up big in the final week of the kettle campaign because every year corporate donations and anonymous money is all given in the last week when these people hear that the campaign is short on its target.

Its pretty shameful that people would take shots at the Salvation Army. Especially you, bohemian. You quite obviously opened your mouth before you researched the topic. A very common problem on this site. Why don't you go post your negative slight on a story that deserves it.

Thanks to the people of PG for pushing this campaign over the top in the last week again! Between the anonymous cheque for $2500 that was dropped off late, and the many corporate donations, 1800 people in this area will have extra help this year. WELL DONE! And thanks to the volunteers! Without you guys this would never happen!
