2008 Weather Wrap

Prince George, B.C.-  Environment Canada Meteorologist Jim Steele has put together a look at the weather  for 2008, and it will go in the books as being  a very wet one.

December 2008 had more snow than normal and was colder than normal.   For the year,  2008  was 0.1 degree cooler than  normal,  and  we had  nearly 96 mm  more precipitatin than the norm.

Here are his numbers on the year:

FEB 33.2 31.2 30.1   3.1 just after mid month. This provided the coldest readings of the year.  
MAR 40.4 28.0 22.9   17.5 Feb - Off to a chilly start, a carry over from January. with milder conditions by the 
APR 5.6 TR 6.3   -6.3 the 2nd week. Colder air arrive near mid month accompanied by lots of sunshine. 
MAY TR 0.0 1.4   -1.4 March - A rough start with copious amounts of snow. Milder near mid month 
JUN 0.0 0.0 0.0   0.0 follow by record low temperatures for 3 consecutive days to end the month.  
JUL 0.0 0.0 0.0   0.0 April - A cool month with Spring having a difficult time to establish itself. A bit milder
AUG 0.0 0.0 0.0   0.0 conditions arrive near mid month. Still it ended up being the coolest April since 1982. 
SEP 0.0 0.0 0.6   -0.6 May - An odd month with temperatures in streaks of above and below normal. 
OCT TR TR 8.4   -8.4 Precipitation was above normal with some very wet days. 
NOV 31.8 59.2 36.2   -4.4 June - A cool start for the first 2 weeks with temperatures only into the teens. 
DEC 65.9 52.7 54.4   11.5 Summer arrived on queue on the 20th with very warm conditions there after. 
 
YEAR 216.4 226.5 216.1   0.3 July - Off to a blazing start with temperatures into the upper 20''s and low 30's.Conditions cooled significantly in the 2nd week. Thunderstorms ruled the month. 
 
HOTTEST DAY -- July 1st with a very warm 31.4 DEGREES August - Not a banner month with rainfall highlighting the picture, the 2nd wettestAugust on record with rainfall on 17 days.  
COLDEST DAY -   January 28th with chilly -36.2 DEGREES

September - A cool and unsettled start gave way to dry and warm conditions near mid month. Fall arrived with a cool unsettled period then milder to end the month.

October - A very warm start but cooling after the 1st week. Precipitation was  sporadic however only a trace of snow was recorded for the month.

November - A fairly nice month with only one day during the month with temperatures remaining below freezing. First significant snow on the 6th

December - A quiet start then witnter arrived near mid month. Very cold
