Prince George, B.C.- A 56 year old electrician from Quesnel had the right stuff to win a Chevrolet Traverse for himself and three others, but fell short of the big one million dollar prize.
Rick Abbot had his name drawn from thousands of entries in a contest to see who could score 15 goals in 20 seconds from the blue line at the World Junior Hockey tournament today.
After the first period of the Canada versus U.S. game, Rick and his two team mates ( Owen Kirby and son Derek Abbot ) stepped up for the first part of the contest. If 15 pucks were put in the net during the required time period, all three men would win a vehicle.
Rick scored eight of a possible ten goals within 15 seconds and team mate Owen Kirby scored the necessary 7 goals within the time limit to ensure Rick, Owen and Rick’s son Derek each won a new Chevrolet Traverse. The number of pucks to cross the goal line also ensured a person in the audience would also win a vehicle.
Then it was up to Rick to try for the big prize, a one time payment of a million.
He stepped up to the blue line and fired 13 pucks into the net within the time limit, two short of the prize.
