Prince George, BC.- Yesterday’s snowfall will go in the record books.

Prince George received 17 cm of snow January 6th, that smashed the previous record for that date of 11.2 cm set back in 1949.

There won’t likely be any record broken today though as the record is 22.9 cm. Prince George has already received 9 cm’s today and may have another 4-8 cms before the day is over. While that’s still a lot of snow, it isn’t enough to break the old mark.

The snowfall has had an impact on Diversified Transportation. The company which provides school bus service had several delays on routes this morning as some of the school bus routes had not been ploughed. Diversified wasn’t able to say how the afternoon run will go until after 3:00 but there were plans in the making to drop off students at highway 16 west and Sykes road because that road has not yet been ploughed. Diversified says many of the parents agreed to meet the students at the highway to ensure they got home safely.

A couple of flights at the Prince George airport have been impacted by the weather, but not because of conditions here. They were flights that were coming from snow and rain challenged Vancouver. Late flights in, means late flights out.

The meteorologists at Environment Canada say the weather should see a change on the weekend with rain instead of snow as temperatures are expected to climb above the zero mark.
The  Streets Division  at the city of Prince George has  full crews out and numerous contractors to help  clear up the mess.

The city  is asking for  residents to  help out by not  parking vehicles on the  roads during daylight hours.

Over the night hours crews willl be concentrating in the downtown core area as well as Main Arterials and Bus routes. Residential area snow clearing will continue tomorrow morning in the following order:

North of 5th Ave. between Ospika and Tabor; College Heights;  Pinecone subdivisions; Residential areas in the Hart Highway area; South Fort George area

I wonder how close we are to the conditions in 1982 when the Pine Center Mall's roof had to be shovelled off?
I would think very close after all of the rain that is supposed to come on Sat.
We had just moved to town. I will never forget the view of the mall as I was driving out of town on a Sunday afternoon. Tons of people on the roof shovelling. Was anyone up there?
I thought they were going to announce that the snow removal budget was blown for 2009
It won't be long, despite the fact I don't see much being done.
My goodness RUEZ when you compare us to Vancouver I think Prince George is outstanding in their snow removal.
I wonder what the snowpac is in Alcan country, remember last time with heavy snowpac
Listening to the Meisner program this morning, I have never heard such unabashed whining in my life from the callers. "My street still has snow on it! Wah!"

You would think people hadn't lived through a heavy snow before.

PG, "City of Whiners".
Stop all the whinning!! I remember when there was no bobcat that came along after the plow to do your driveway!. I had to go out at what ever temperature it happened to be that particular day and shovel out the end of the driveway so we could get the vehicles in or out. I think we have it pretty easy today with having someone from the city to do it for us. It can get pretty heavy on that ole shovel.
