Prince George, B.C.- The RCMP’s Prince George Detachment will likely have a new Superintendent by the end of this month.
North District Chief Superintendent Barry Clark says interviews before a selection committee will be held in two weeks, and a decision should be made shortly after that.
The selection committee will be made up of two reps from City Hall, one being the Mayor or his delegate and one from Administration, there will also be two reps from the senior management of the RCMP.
While Chief Superintendent Clark doesn’t know who has made the short list, he is aware that women have been asked to apply for the job and a member serving in Afghanistan has also applied.
Heading up the Prince George detachment is viewed as being a prime posting. The detachment is large enough to provide career challenges, the community is affordable and it has all the amenities of a larger city.
The detachment is currently under the watch of Inspector Kirke Hopkins as Superintendent Dahl Chambers has moved to Vancouver. Hopkins won’t be at the helm for long though as he too is transferring, moving to Fort MacMurray possibly as early as mid February. His post as the 2nd in command, will be taken over by Staff Sergeant Chris Baumford who will be promoted to the rank of Inspector. Baumford has been with the detachment for several years, and his advancement will provide some continuity during the command changes at the detachment.
