Prince George, B.C. - Two representatives from Prince George are in Richmond today, taking part in a special session on launching a bid to host the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
Held once every two years, alternating between summer and winter, the Canada Games represent the highest level of national competition. B.C. has hosted the summer games twice, in Kamloops in 1993 and in New Westminster and Burnaby in 1973.
The 2015 winter games will be a first for B.C.
“This is an information session” says Manager of Community Services, Tom Madden “ We’re going to take the opportunity to hear what they have to say. We will likely have a few questions around matters of capital contribution and the finalizing of the bid criteria.” The session in Richmond is being hosted by the Canada Games Council and the Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport.
Madden says Council has already supported the idea of making a bid for the games “We need to gather a lot more information to bring back to Council to say let’s go ahead now and complete this.”

How can we host the winter games if we cant plow the roads..
We can use our potholes for the new fishpond and have an ice fishing derby.
LOLOLOLOL Every town or city that hosts this ends up in the hole financially. Our city planners like this sort of expediture though so it will happen!

Yeh but think of the economic boost these games will provide. My question is why do we use tax dollars to promote this event. Why is the Chamber of Commerce and the business community not footing the bill. They have the most to gain.

Cheers

My thoughts exactly Bridge.

The economic boost really only benefits the rich at the expense of the not rich.

Funny thing is it is the rich and or the people that control our tax dollars that always come up with these great economic boosting ideas!

Perhaps some day they will come up with some ideas that really benefit the people,
(who pay the tax dollars and extremely high prices for everything)and stop thinking about their legacies and personal bank accounts.
Seems to me that Vancouver, Whistler, would be the most common sense place to hold these games, considering that they have already spent Hundreds of millions to host the Winter Olympics.

Prince George cannot really afford to build all the facilities necessary to host the Winter Olympics, and should not even bother. We are already taxed to the hilt, in debt up to our ying yangs, and its time to become fiscally responsible and live within our means.

Whats the chances of that happening???

THEY have already spent?
Don't you mean we have already spent?

Why do you think all our services such as road repairs and snow plowing, etc have been cut so bad over the last couple of years.

We are not talking Winter Olympics we are talking Canada Winter Games.
Lostfaith. Yes we have already spent.

Local road repairs and snow plowing within the City is the responsibility of the City. It seems that we are still getting the same level of service on Highways for road repairs, and snow plowing which is the Provinces responsibility.

So what facilities do you think we would need for the Canada Winter Games. Ski Jumps? Ice Oval? or do you think we already have the facilities because of the CN Centre, and Otway Ski Trails, and Purden Ski Hill?

As compared to when???

"So what facilities do you think we would need for the Canada Winter Games."

We don't need any facilities for any games , cause we can't afford them here in PG.
