Prince George, B.C. - Two representatives from Prince George are in Richmond today, taking part in a special session on launching a bid to host the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
Held once every two years, alternating between summer and winter, the Canada Games represent the highest level of national competition. B.C. has hosted the summer games twice, in Kamloops in 1993 and in New Westminster and Burnaby in 1973.
The 2015 winter games will be a first for B.C.
“This is an information session” says Manager of Community Services, Tom Madden “ We’re going to take the opportunity to hear what they have to say. We will likely have a few questions around matters of capital contribution and the finalizing of the bid criteria.” The session in Richmond is being hosted by the Canada Games Council and the Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport.
Madden says Council has already supported the idea of making a bid for the games “We need to gather a lot more information to bring back to Council to say let’s go ahead now and complete this.”
