Prince George, B.C.- The community will be introduced to the latest group of students in the Northern Medical program at UNBC today.

This is the largest group to date with 33 students in the program that is designed to train Doctors in the North, hoping that once they graduate they will set up practice in the North.

The group is not only the largest, just over a third (12) are graduates of UNBC.

Many of the home communities are from the region, including Smithers, Kitimat, Burns Lake, Fort. St. John, Prince Rupert, Terrace, Prince George, and a brother and sister who grew up in Kitwanga.

The Northern Medical Program is part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine, delivered in collaboration with UNBC.  The students who have arrived in Prince George this week have completed their first semester of courses at UBC’s Vancouver campus and now have the opportunity to complete their coursework and practical work experiences in Prince George and other communities around the region.  The program produced its first graduates last spring.

This is so great for the North.
This is probably the best thing that has happened to us in Northern BC. It gives us a chance to retain maybe half of the doctors for the north.
Anyone have any idea how many of last years graduates actually stayed in the Northern Interior. It would be interesting to know. Also of those that stayed in the Northern Interior, how many stayed in Prince George.
A brother and sister??? That is too cool, those must be some proud parents!
