Quesnel -   Residents of Quesnel are the latest to be hit by a scam in which the caller seeks the credit card number. The caller in the Quesnel case,  from Pennsylvania says they looking to extend the warranty on their vehicle.

When questioned by some residents about what vehicle they were talking about the caller was unable to provide that information.

A similar campaign to extract credit card information from residents took place in Burns Lake recently.

Police are investigating.

i get these calls on a regular basis but just hang up every time.my vehicle is 13 years old so i don't think i need an extended warranty on it.
it seems ignorant to just hang up but it's the best thing to do with these crooks.
got a call in mackenzie also
I have had three calls in PG
I just got a call at 9 this morning in Mackenzie. Waited until I could push 1 to talk to a live operator and then asked him "Can you sleep at night when you scam people?" He hung up right away.
Now that everyone knows about the scam it should be fun to toy with them!
The call came from 202-495-7127 - Dist of Columbia.
Hey, why doesn't everyone call that #, and harass them, and see if they want to give them their creditcard #
Yeah I've been getting a lot of those calls lately too (Fort St John)... most don't have a #, just show up as "Pennsylvania" or "District of Columbia" so at least I know not to answer! They seem to stop after a week or so.
I have called tely marketers to have my phone # taken off but i am still getting calls

Rachel just called to tell me to press 1 or 2 re my credit card.
Then I had another call from BC Directories to press 1 if I had received my directory and 2 if it was in poor condition.
I just hung up on both
Feel like getting rid of my landline.
I too have been called by some outfit about my vehicle warranty, probably about ten times now in the last month (in PG)
The one time that I was home and answered the call, I just hung up as soon as the spiel began. It is the same recorded female voice each time.
Damn scammers.
metalman.
Rachel? She called here too. Sounded like a recording. I hung up. If someone needs to talk seriously they will find another method of contacting me.

I too am starting to seriously consider getting rid of the land line. I have not tried the no-call list. I am concerned that will not really work.
I have heard the phone companies have released all cell phone numbers to telemarketers as of sometime in January. If this is true the scammers will have a field day. Anyone hear that?
These people are calling everywhere. I live in Surrey and they call about once a week. I just don't answer thanks to call display.
I doubt anyone has to release any numbers. Just random dial with an autodialer.

Here is an example of modern technology for sale.

And the do not call list only applies for telemarketers in Canada. Calls from international "companies" don't need to follow the rules.

There was a story on the news last night about how easy it is to get the DNC list, apparently you sign up with your telemarketer name, pay $50, and bingo, there's the list. They're supposed to use the list to know who NOT to call, but come on, anyone legit or not can get the list.
There was an episode of The Simpsons where Homer got hold of the professors auto-dialer. Where can I get one? Art imitating life?
I was at my Dads in Vanderhoof and answered one of these calls. If these are originating out side of Canada I don't think the Canadian No call list is going to help, darn!
