Prince George, B.C.- The Federal Budget will be delivered today and there are hopes  some Prince George projects will benefit from it.
Earlier this month, a delegation from Prince George met with Finance Minister Jim Flaherty. They came away from the session optimistic some of their ideas would see action. Those ideas included funding for the Boundary Road development, more dollars to expand UNBC’s role as a forestry research and bio energy centre, transitional training funding, infrastructure funding, and First Nations housing improvements.
Flaherty has already indicated the transfer payments to the Provinces will not be reduced.   With reduced income from tax revenues, the Government will have to move into deficit spending. There has been talk the deficit will be in the $40 billion dollar range, and while he won’t confirm that number, Prime Minister Stephen Harper told a Calgary Herald reporter earlier this month that the deficit will be “Very large.”
Of course, the real issue will be, will the Liberals support the budget? If they decide not to, then Canadians can expect to head back to the polls for another election.

All of the parties in Ottawa are out for their own political power and they have very little caring about what is best for the people of this country. It is a shame that a democracy can get so low. Layton will vote against the budget and he hasn't even heard it all - just goes to show how immature he is. He definately doesn't want to cooperate in any way. I can't believe his party stands behind him. The bloc - shouldn't even be a party they don't represent most of the country. The Liberals finally have a better leader, but they are just as selfish as ever, I haven't heard any good planning from them. Harper has made alot of mistakes trying to be the big bully instead of trying to work with the other parties which was what the people of the country wanted by electing a minority. He now is forced to back track and is forced into spending that perhaps is not what most Canadian want. The whole thing is just a laugh. I don't think there is any integrity left in Ottawa. It's most dissappointing that all these people in power can behave so poorly. They should be embarrassed.
Winnie, I agree with most of your comments. The NDP and the Bloc are shooting it down before it is even heard. The Liberals want to hear it first, and then take a vote, which is fair.

But the Bloc should not be in power to represent the rest of the country.

If they turn it down, the budget. It will mean election time again. Seriously, the blame will be on the NDP, Liberals and Bloc. This is a collapsing economy, this is not the time to be playing politics. I am confident that Harper will get Majority Government. This will be the end of the Liberal Party. NDP will likely shrink as well.

It is too bad, We have useless Dick Harris representing us. Maybe we should find another person that actually care about the people they represent.
Ignatief should try and bargain a deal where he sits in on the meeting with Obama and Harper, when Obama comes to town. They can play good cop bad cop on various issues and it would be good for Canada IMO, and it would set a good precedence....
The Liberals are just going through the motions. They have no money for an election right now. The media and everyone else just plays along with their song and dance
Seamutt, your right. The Liberals will vote in favor of it, because they don't have the money to have another election. And they can keep Harper in a minority position so that they can always threaten a coalition.

Either with or without Liberal money for an election, Ignatief will most likely not vote against the budget (unless it truly is a poor budget). Keeping with the theme that all these politicians are in this for themselves, Ignatief has not had enough time to make a name for himself as liberal leader. By voting for the budget he walks away looking like a Canadian hero for not toppling the government at a time of crisis. In doing so he will bolster the image of the liberal party (and himself), the liberals will gain a portion of the popular vote and at the same time will allow him time to make a name for himself as a powerful opposition leader.
Can't see how bolstering the image of the Liberal party can do any harm! After all, Layton bolstered the image of his party already and so did the Bloc. Winnie, great post!
Maybe Jacques Demers should have a chat with Jack Layton, because there must be an excuse for wanting to vote against the budget and it has to be illiteracy.
I am appalled at the attitude and behavior of some of the members of the opposition. To actually announce that they will not be voting for the budget, even before they know what's in it.

How sad, they should all be fired and sent home without a severance package. It's that kind of attitude that offends me the most. They aren't even willing to try to make it work.
