Prince George, B.C. - The College of New Caledonia is looking for some infrastructure goodies in today's federal budget.

CNC President John Bowman says the college submitted requests to Ottawa for three infrastructure projects that it needs in order to create a new BC-North TEC initiative:

  • 1. Expansion, renovations and building systems upgrades for technical and trades programs at the Prince George campus in the Brinks and Mackenzie buildings worth $10 million.
  • 2. Quesnel Campus Phase II Expansion worth $5 million.
  • 3. A Student and Cultural Centre at the Prince George Campus estimated at $5.3 million.

Bowman says the BC-North TEC initiative would provide greatly increased access to technical training opportunities in Northern B.C.  He says the college is hopeful that money for the projects will be part of the $2-billion fund which Human Resources Minister Diane Finley has said will  be in the new budget to provide training for workers who have lost their jobs.

"BC-North TEC will mean the addition of 274 full-time equivalent training spaces (at a total annual cost of $2.9
million) in technology-related programs over the next five years."

Two of the initial programs that CNC would create under the initiative are Medical Radiography Technology and Engineering Technology.
