PRINCE GEORGE, B.C.  - The Province is providing $140,666 to support the  efforts of School District 57 to improve the literacy skills of their students.

The Literacy Innovation Grants support innovative literacy initiatives and practices in Kindergarten to Grade 12. School districts will receive the same funding levels as last year and will continue to be given the flexibility to support innovative literacy practices in the K-12 system, or to support District Literacy Plan development.

The Prince George School District has used previous funding to maintain and support the Primary Project and professional staff development to improve student achievement in reading with a focus on aboriginal students.

Making these grants available for a fifth year means districts can expand literacy initiatives. Last year some districts developed summer reading and family literacy programs, while others focused their efforts on assessment and intervention projects for younger learners.

bring back testing of the students before letting them go on to the next grade. The idea that a grade six student can't read is a direct reflection on the morons that allowed that student to progress that far.And when you get into high school that is definitly uncalled for.
