PRINCE GEORGE - The Prince George Air Improvement Roundtable (PGAIR) will receive a $40,000 government grant to aid in its efforts to improve air quality in the airshed.

The funds will support initiatives under Phase Two of the Prince George Airshed Management Plan that include hiring a third party to review the results of a source-receptor modelling study, running a vehicle emissions clinic for an anti-idling campaign, installing an air quality
warning light system, and holding a public forum to present the results of PGAIR's research.

PGAIR's mandate is to improve air quality in Prince George by using science-based decision-making to identify significant emissions sources for reduction.

"PGAIR's mandate is to improve air quality in Prince George by using science-based decision-making to identify significant emissions sources for reduction."

The mystery is solved. Industry is using business-based decision making, government is using political-based decision making, and PGAIR is using science-based decision making.

Now I know why PGAIR is taking decades! They have to step into the real world of business and politics to get anything done other than piling up the scientific papers.
The city does not want us to burn wood outside even to have a weiner roast, but they tollerate burning wood inside the home for heat. They gave a grant to people a while back to change to a more efficient wood burning stove. Why not give a grant for them to switch to the pellet stove. They are clean burning and efficient. Totally safe, not like wood which is not very safe. Pellet stoves turn themselves off if there is a problem, wood stoves just burn your house down. That is one way of helping the air quality in P.G. The other way is make the pulp mills and refinery enstall better pollution control devices.
Hire a 3rd party? What's wrong w/ the 1st and 2nd parties - sounds like a waste of $$$ to me. I live in N.N and the smoke smell from some of the homes here is enough to make you want to stay inside - I like the pellet stove idea - that would be $$$ very well spent!
"...and the smoke smell from some of the homes here is enough to make you want to stay inside -..."

The smoke settles overnight and one must hold one's breath when opening the door to empty the mailbox in the morning.

That pollution comes from the many homes that are connected to natural gas but are burning fire wood for heating, including during the air advisory periods.

They wouldn't switch to pellets because they get their fire wood from the bush, for free.

City bylaws exist but are never enforced. That's the way it is. The buck stops there. Brick wall.

Cheers!
Where is PACHA in all this?
They are the hardworking ground people whithout vested interested. I am sure they could use $40,000
