Williams Lake, B.C. - The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum is crowing about the discovery of two mineralized areas in BC that may attract new mining exploration.

Both of the areas are located near Williams Lake.  At Harrison Creek, near Murphy Lake, ministry geologists found  significant copper, silver and gold values that warrant further exploration.

Near the Chilanko River, the Geological Survey team discovered three sites with copper mineralization that were confirmed by lab analyses.  The discoveries have mineralization similar to that at the Highland Valley copper mine.

Northern Caucus Chair and Prince George-Omenica MLA John Rustad says both mineralized zones offer promise, which could result in more exploration spending and mining investment in the province.

Both sites are available for tenure acquisition as of January 21, 2009.

I give it 10 minutes before First Nations and the Enviro Zealots release the hounds. To them, BC's future involves washing the dishes and changing the sheets of ultra-rich American tourists, not earning a living at a mine.

to bad we arn't covered by welfare and rich supporters like the above. Than we to could take the moral high ground.
I agree gamblor...and besides,Rustad is implying the B.C Liberals support new mining in the province.
I will believe that when I see it!
Vote for Rustad in May. He do GOOD.
It is good that these discoveries have been made but to compare it to Highland Valley is strange
If it is that high of content and easy to get at it would have been mined or started years ago
1st Nations do need to be consulted as do environmental study however they should not be seen as stopping just because they don't like it
Big Wayne. The reason they compare it to highland valley is that the higland valley deposit has a wealth of geolgic data collected over the years. Deposits with simualar geologic principals are often named after another depostit even though they may not be in the same area. It gives geologists and exploration crews a model to work with.

Its still too early to get over excited about geochemical finds they are just an indicator that further exploration is needed. Sure you may get good results geochemicaly but you need to find the source and drill it to see how viable the deposit actually is. Im not even sure why this is newsworthy when there are good highgrade drill results being released elswhere in the province that actually support a mineable deposits. Lets get optimistic when the deposit is found and some holes are punched in it. Nice run for gold today though $908/ounce..
