The Regional District of Fraser- Fort George has received a plan that would see the Region's cultural activities lumped into one giant organization.

The recommendation has been put forth by Bill Barkley who says the cultural events are experiencing unprecedented growth, mainly because cultural groups have been working together to grow the events.

The Regional District contributed $1,409,620 to the cultural arts in 2005, the City of Prince George's share was $159,630.

The new organization, says Barkley ,would hope to attract 1/3 funding from Government, 1/3 from donations and 1/3 from earned income under the new plan.

He also says all of the cultural arts should be receiving money from one central agency not the way the present system operates. In conclusion , Barkley says Cultural spending is up by 19% between the years of 1997 and 2001.

Under the new proposal cultural funding in excess of $ 25,000 dollars would require that a contract be written.

The Regional District  is studying the proposal.
