Prince George, B.C. - A bathroom exhaust fan sparked a fire in a Ruggles Street home last night.

Prince George Fire Rescue Investigators and the BC Electrical Safety Authority returned to the residence earlier today.  Officials say the fan seized and overheated, starting the fan blade and surrounding structure on fire.

Fire Rescue says the occupants smelled the smoke and were able to locate the fire, then call 911 quickly.  However, investigators say the home was not equiped with smoke detectors and the situation could've ended in tragedy.  Prince George Fire Rescue is reminding residents to install smoke detectors and make sure they're in good operating condition.

One person was transported to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

No damage estimate is available.
