Prince George, B.C. - Environment Canada says Prince George weather was anything but predictable during the month of January.
The Weather Office says January started out on the cold side, switched to a mild spell during the first week of the month, then back into some colder temperatures for a few days.
Meteorologist Jim Steele says that's when things got a little weird. A very mild period lasted from the 10th to the 18th, followed by a cold snap that dropped temperatures to the coldest of the month. Warmer the average temperatures came back for the final days of the month. The month shaped up like this:

Average daily high of -4.1 was above the normal of -5.5 degrees C.

Average daily low of -12.3 was above the normal of -13.6 degrees C.

Mean temperature of -8.2 was above the normal -9.6 degrees C.

Warmest Day on the 30th with a maximum temperature of 4.6 degrees

Coldest day on the 25th with an overnight minimum of -31.6 degrees

Total precipitation of 64.1 mm was above the normal of 52.4 mm.

Total Snowfall of 66.8 cm was above the normal of 55.8 cm
-
Total rainfall of 5.0 mm was below the normal of 6.2 mm

Measurable precipitation on 14 days near the normal of 15 days

Greatest snowfall one day 17.6 cm on the 6th

Greatest rainfall one day 3.6 mm on the 13th

No daily or monthly records were established this month
Meteorologist Jim Steele says Groundhog Day predictions of six more weeks of winter may come true, given the outlook for February.
Steele says the Weather Office is expecting below normal temperatures and above average precipitation.
The month started out with a dump of snow totalling 16 centimetres from Sunday to Monday.
