Prince George, B.C. - UNBC's Northern Women's Centre is hosting a number of events during National Eating Disorder Awareness week. This year's theme is One Size Does Not Fit All, The Myths and Realities of Eating Disorders.
Eating disorders are the third most common chronic illness in adolescent girls and the most common age for the onset of eating disorders is between 14 and 25. According to statistics, the annual death rate associated with anorexia is more than 12 times higher than the annual death rate from all other causes of death in females between the ages of 15 and 24.
An information display will be set up at the UNBC Women's Centre this week along with an interactive theatre presentation by Streetspirits. A panel discussion exploring the myths and realities of eating disorders willl be held Friday from noon until 3 p.m. at the Bentley Centre. A positive body image/body casting workshop will be held on Saturday, February 7th starting at 10 a.m.
