Northern Health is entering the final stretch of the 2005-2006 fiscal year with a small surplus.
At a board meeting in Prince George, NH Directors received word of a year-to-date surplus of $2.026-million dollars.
The amount represents just 0.4-percent of the $484-million dollar budget for the year, but is an improvement over the same time last year when Northern Health was facing a deficit of $1.4-million dollars.
According to NH Director of Communications, Mark Karjaluoto, this year's improved picture is due to higher-than-budgeted revenues, lower benefit costs, and lower travel spending.
The board also received a progress report on initiatives within the Northern Cancer Program (click here, for complete story).
