Prince George voters will go to the polls today, as municipal elections are held across the province.

City residents will be electing a mayor and eight city councillors, along with seven school board trustees.

The polls open at 8am and will remain open until 8pm at the following locations:
-- Austin Road Elementary
-- Beaverley Elementary
-- Blackburn Community Centre
-- Edgewood Elementary
-- Lakewood Junior Secondary
-- Malaspina Elementary
-- Ron Brent Elementary
-- Prince George Regional Hospital, 10am-4pm, primarily for staff and patients

Each voter will be required to register prior to voting by presenting two pieces of identification, including:
-- BC Driver's Licence or BC Identification
-- BC Care Card
-- Social Insurance Card
-- Canadian Citizenship Card
-- Utility Bill
-- Property Tax Notice
-- Credit Card or Debit Card
-- vehicle insurance documents with ICBC

If turn-out to advance polls is any indication, interest may be high in this year's race with a total of 1,078 voters taking part as compared to just 637 during the 2002 election.  A total of 12,614 residents turned out to vote that year.

Those elected to City Council and School District 57's Board of Trustees will serve three year terms from December 2005 to December of 2008.

It'll be interesting to see who's in the Mayor's chair tomorrow morning.

Like most of you, I think that politicians are roach-like, scurrying insects.

But Colin is definitely the lesser of two weevils.
It will be interesting to see who is elected first, then why people elected them?

Track record could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what has been important to you over the last term.

You may be more interested in character, values and reputation.

Or, maybe a leader who has already proven himself he can lead vs one who has a tendency to table it, send it to committee or yet another study before making a decision.

Or, maybe just to give someone else a shot who knows the game, but isn't an unknown in the city.

Many different reasons will be used to determine a consensus on who will lead this community into the next 4 years.

Either way, I don't think we are going to turn this city around over night. So, as long as we support the ones who do get elected, encourage them and let them know how you feel about issues that are important to you.

They will need all of your prayers, encouragement and support to take PG to the next level of it's maturity. Chester
