Wow, I had wondered where the Friday Free For All had gone.

I now understand. Thanks Ben and Elaine for offering us this opportunity to voice our opinions. Great site. I hope you had a great holiday, cheers!!!

Why have we still heard nothing about the shooting that occurred in Salmon Valley a short time ago?
Are they running out of plane landing times down in the USA, another crash.
Its Friday the 13th! Does anyone have any quips, ideas etc on how to avoid bad luck?
Like not passing the path of a black cat, throwing spilt salt over yor shoulder,etc..

I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Valentines day with their special someone.

Cheers!
Any body know why the price of gas has gone up while the price per barrel of oil has gone down?
"Does anyone have any quips, ideas etc on how to avoid bad luck?"
-Risk Management!
According to the news, the price of gas has gone up due to the increase in demand. According to the news the price of a barrell of oil has gone down due to lack of demand.
The 2010 Olympics: Is it really wanted by the citizens of BC?
Ahhhhhhh... so that's what it is !!

Valentine's Day.

No wonder Mr. Rabbitt was so "friendly" this morning.

Nice.

Olympics- lets have a vote.
They are for the rich. I am against the expense of having them.
I see the Chinese are coming back to BC to use a little water.150 years ago they used it to wash gold.I wonder what they will do with it now.Chinese buy Rio Tinto.
a little late to bitch about the Olympics guys. Its happening!

We got the UNBC sports centre out of it...have you been in there?
PRICE of fuel:
The Husky and the Shell at the BCR site was still at .889 for gas, and .817 for diesel last night when I filled up. I wish I had a couple of Tidy tanks.......
metalman.
News flash! The Olympics are going to happen, like it or not.. I beleive that Mr Campbell will drain the bank to ensure this happens. And all of us who pay taxes will pay for it...The loan that happened in Vancouver is just a start of what is to come. After all doesn't Mr Campbell hail out of Point Grey...that is a close to Vancouver as you can get without being there.
Maybe the only way around it is if we get a different government between then and now, but I somehow think that regardless of who wins all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed and we are committed, as is the next governmet be it who it may..
Olympics- I am for them because of all the employment that was created the past 3 years, additional social housing that is/was built that will be available afterwards, the upgrade of a death highway between Van and Whistler...While it is a short term expense we do not know yet of the revenues generated now and in the future eg. income taxes from the employment, revenues from the games them selves and future revenues from some of the buildings that were built. Before anyone jumps on 'it has cost us billions' rant, you must know what the revenues are, which you do not.
The questions isnt whether or not we can cancel the Olympics its whether or not they are good!

I like the Olympics putting Van and BC in the international spotlight but not a big fan of paying for it.

At the very least the Northern Sport Center and Vans public housing are good things and right now Olympic related building is provided much needed stimulus. Plus the Canada Line is going to be a great asset.

I was happy when we got them and I am happy now. The timing of the financial crisis is unfortunate.

Pit Bell hows about showing up for the rally in front of Service Canada,we would love to tell you how great we are all doing here in your so called riding.
The NSC required donation of $5 Million from UNBC, that they had to go take a loan for. Interest + payments is about $170,000 a year on it. Plus there is other on-going donations to NSC to keep it running. It will be interesting to see the financial for the NSC ( if we actually do get to see them ). You people complain what a potential PAC might cost well the NSC so far is no different ! Why is there not the uproar over the NSC ?
Council is upset over our snow removal budget. Phil Fontaine is upset over native poverty. No hero in the latest plane crash in New York. The city so great they named it twice. Finally, no big announcement about the new mosque being built in our town? How come no fuss? My bet in commenting on these items labels me anti-American, anti- aboriginal, anti-Islam and finally anti-city council. Hey! How about our Cougars? Oops! I don't go to the games. I'm anti-Cougar, I guess. I feel much better having Friday free for all back.
I support the Olympics. It is a good way for the government to recirculate our money. Along with it private investors who convince the banks to spend money. It is a win win situation. Think of the big picture.

We live in a country with 40 to 45% taxation. Most of the money goes through the government coffers with in 3 years. Only the old mouldy money is out of their hands.

It will be the leveraging of that old mouldy money that will get us out of this economic situation.

There are a lot of people that think they have bad luck, or the massess think a person is luck. What is good luck, Good luck is when preparation and opportunity colides. A person that thinks and works hard is always preparing himself for that opportunity. A person with bad luck, does not think and/or work hard, thus when opportunity comes by, he is the guy that says I wish I had.

About luck; you got it, hespeaks! words so true. I say: "you make your own luck" but that of course takes good planning.
As for the mosque? it is, I presume, for the use of your average law abiding Islamist, of which there are many millions in this world. Hopefully it does not draw in the crazies i.e. Islamic fundamentalists

Hey I was wondering if this sounds right? Say a forester worker was laid off Dec 2007. He collects ei for 45 weeks, pretty much doesnt work for all of 2008. He files his taxes right now and finds out he has to pay 1200 in tax. So they dont take enough taxes off all year with ei, and now has a bill of 1200. Any others have this problem yet, or did i file my taxes wrong?
Okay I am going to recycle an old request. People when walking your dogs on undeveloped trails in the city how about at least flipping the flipping poop off the trail if you are not going to pick it up. It is disgusting, you are disgusting.

The people of Prince George and British Columbia want Government ACCOUNTABILITY. When something is purchased with the people's tax dollars and government goes over budget we want the books open to the public. That goes for any of you MLA's!
We want to know if you are going out and buying a new hammer every time you build something. We know the tool box is over flowing with hammers and self made raises. Prove to the people in this economic crisis that ALL you Government officials care, take a CUT in pay that ,we pay you and maybe, just maybe you"ll see a better voter turn out. 3 out of 20 including myself, people I just know vote. The rest just don't give a damn. We know you all got raises while the rest of us just loose our jobs. If we had the power to fire all of you in Ottawa, don't you think we would. Start fresh for a new day. ( I'm dreaming) And thats my Rant for Friday the 13th!
Hey Zoom: When the olympics are over, think of all the unemployed workers flooding onto the market.

Social housing? From what I've heard, the olympic condo development will be sold off at premium prices. (to help pay for those games)
gold-rush

It is possible especially if you had EI and then one or two other jobs. None of the sources of income know about the other so they assume a certain rate and may all apply the basic exemptions, which you only actually get once. Are you paper filing? One thing I missed was the 'Canada employment amount' box 363 on schedule 1. If you are using software it will prob be automatic but if paper filing review the guide. If you have employment income you may qualify for this. There may be an equivalent box on BC428.
lmorg

A portion of the athletes village will be for social housing. Other buildings will hit the open market after the games.
Real or Rumor?
I heard the RiverStone Bar & Grill closed its doors yesterday. Anyone know the story(or a story)?
Imorg, there may be those workers that may be unemployed after the building of olympic related venues/infrastructure. But did they not have well paying steady work for the past two or three years? Did they not all pay significant taxes and spend their earnings supporting the economy??? BC was ahead of it's time with infrastructure spending, the world is now following spending billions if not trillions doing the same thing. My guess would be with the amount of infrastructure spending about to occur these workers should not be out of work long
bcracer
Point Grey isnt close to Vancouver. It is a neighborhood in Vancouver.
World wide oil demand has dropped somewhere between 5 -10%. This amounts to hundreds of millions of barrels of oil per year yet we hear nothing about the massive decrease in carbon dioxide emissions that have resulted from this decrease in burning fossil fuels.
This world wide decrease in carbon dioxide dwarfs anything the liberal gov't has planned in conjunction with pine beetle and wood fired power generation.
Just maybe Gordon and crew will recognize this fact and eliminate the carbon tax increase that will hit us in a few months and again next year.
The way the oil companies are raising the price of gasoline in the face of falling crude oil prices we can congratulate them for helping decrease our carbon foot print on plant earth.
We still have gas at 88.9 at the Esso and PetroCan on 20th...
But once the Campbell gets done with us, that wonderful cash grab, called caron tax, it will be over a $1.oo again...
seamutt I have to agree with you....people do not get it. Not picking up the poop can not only make your dog sick but it can effect humans too.
"No hero in the latest plane crash in New York. The city so great they named it twice."

The crash happened on the approach to the Buffalo Niagara Airport in the state of New York. The City of New York is not involved.

I guess Mexico City is even greater than the City of New York since it is named twice too .... Mexico City, Mexico.

Good thing Vancouver is not located on Vancouver Island, eh?

Then again, Washington DC is much further removed from Washington State than Vancouver is from Vancouver Island. Actually Washington is the place name used
32 times in the USA.

After reading this, gus, it makes me wanna go to Paris, Texas for some reason.
Amazing...not one peep in our local news about the rumour of the boiler at PG Pulp getting raw natural gas fed to it for 3 or 4 hours without the pilot light being on?? Rumourmill has it that someone noticed something funny coming out of the stacks...could have levelled half the town and it's not newsworthy?? AT least they reported ONE of the Chlorine Dioxide spills they have had in the last couple of weeks.
That might have been life threatening Jim, why would they tell us? Smells of the same story CN has been saying for years.
can someone please explain to me why in light of all the mill closures plywood plants shutting down all over the province that raw log exports continue?, this goverment seems to have something against the working folks of bc taking note of all the jobs that have been shipped out of the province the last several years, what gives? mr bell ms bond mr rustad... and one more thing give us northerners a break and get rid of the carbon tax..
The negativity on this bullshit site is just over the top. Enjoy hating life idiots, I'm done.
Good bye Death
Why do we need so many Homeless Shelters is P.G. where are they coming from ???
