ARCA Taking Over WESCAR Series

Prince George, B.C. - ARCA West ( Automobile Racing Club of America) is taking over the WESCAR racing series.
With its national marketing plan, safety standards and longevity, there are benefits for all involved in the sport.   For the fans, thee will be more cars, for the drivers, there will be opportunities for advancement into the Max Series, and for the tracks, increased attendance.

This will provide a potential for television contract, and national sponsorships in addition to the local sponsors.
The ARCA West Sportsman series will be based in Prince George, B.C. with Bob Williams to continue on as the director of the OK Tire Sportsman Series in B.C. “This is an extension of the original concept of the WESCAR series” says Bob “As volunteers we’ve taken WESCAR as far as it could go, with ARCA involved its brought the series to a whole new level.”
There will be 6 races this year, starting May 9th in Vernon, May 30th in Williams, Lake, June 13th in Prince George ( Chieftain Penzoil 100 Race)  July 18th in Vernon, ( The Canadian Tire NASCAR weekend) in which the top 20 ARCA West drivers will be guaranteed a start, then August 15th in Quesnel,  and the final race will be September 12th in Vernon.
With the signing of the OK Tire Sportsman series, there is a commitment of 36 drivers from all over the province. This series will also provide an opportunity for drivers to move up in the racing ranks, supported by ARCA.
The Points Champ for 2008, Sheldan Mayert, is excited about the news “I think it’s a good thing,  we’re really going to see a combined effort all over the province to unify the rules. I am looking forward to seeing how the five year vision will impact the sport”
PGARA President, Chris Arronge sees the move to ARCA as a positive change “I’m very excited to see the improvements right away with the additional cars.” Instead of 28 drivers, the move to ARCA ensures there will be 36 on the track.
