Prince George, B.C. - Premier Gordon Campbell expects $600 million dollars worth of infrastructure work to be rolled out within the next 90 days.   Campbell was not able to say if Boundary Road, a $48 million dollar project that would link Highway 16 east to Highway 97, is on the list of projects.
“It is one of the proposals we have. We have a number of proposals. The Pine Pass is something we announced in the Throne Speech we want to move with that.   We have to do this in an orderly fashion.”
The Premier says he can’t  say exactly where Boundary Road fits, but it is on the radar “We know about it, Initiatives Prince George has made it very clear that its an important part of the logistics centre , and again, its about building Canada. There’s also $10.6 billion dollars in Capital investment we have in our Provincial budget, part of that is the Build Canada Fund, again, it’s a partnership.   It will be those public private partnerships that are driving infrastructure investment  and literally thousands of jobs across the province. Our capital plan that we announced in this budget we expect will create 88 thousand jobs .”
The Premier says the $600 million will be used for a variety of projects  “It will be for road improvements, for school improvements, for health care improvements, sewage improvements, water improvement.  We ‘re really answering the call the Prime Minister put out in his budget on the 27th of January where he said we want to get people to work, that’s exactly what we’re trying to do in British Columbia.”
The Premier says he expects to have $ 2 billion dollars worth of infrastructure funding in the works by July of 2010.

600 million within the next 90 days and 2 billion dollars worth by 2010.
Hello?...2010?
And public private partnerships are a mistake and need to be avoided.....just ask Vancouver.
That is nothing more than Campbell kissing corporate butt,as he is known for.
All in all,a pretty damn vague timeline.
Must be an election coming.
And another thing..can't help but notice the three month timeline and how it ties in with the upcoming provincial election?
In other words,if you people don't re-elect us Liberals none of this will happen!
That's plain old fashioned electoral blackmail.
There is no blackmail. BC Liberals better be voted back in or you can kiss BC good bye. We are far far better off with the BC Liberals for employment, investment and business. Facts are facts. It takes investment, business and employment to create 'Income Tax' revenue which in turn supports schools, hospitals and the homeless that socialist seem to forget.

People also forget the last time NDP was in everyone left including Mining. BC is in great shape compared to anywhere else. It is not perfect but it is better than NDP social carnage.

Have a fantastic day!
Yes, it is a bright clear sunny day in the Hart! Fantastic!

Andyfreeze, there is no blackmail here! It is called electioneering! Every party does it, did it and will keep doing it! No exception! It's legal! By now everyone should be used to it and not bet a bottom dollar on it!

Remember the P.G. cancer clinic which was promised at the beginning of the Nineties?

It went to Kelowna instead, right after the election was over. That was a hard pill to swallow.

If any riding really objects to getting its share of the announced infrastructure spending a simple phone call by its MLA (after checking with the constituents) would get immediate attention!

I haven't heard of any opposition MLA turning up his/her nose at the projected funding for his/her riding!

Political suicide it would be.
Shhhh got to keep it all a secret until after the election, then suprise....the money stays where he lives...and the olympics...so typical of campbell and his yes people
A whole lot of talk by campbell...hasn't said a thing except there is money but not for where....could be anyplace...mind you he has to win the election first I quess.....

It is by no means a very secure secret! The information is available for all who are interested at the above website!
Anyone up for creating another Social Credit Party??
That would be a good idea, Paladin, if only it were actually FOR 'social credit' this time, like the old BC Social Credit "League" once was.

Before it took in that BC Liberal crowd, and became just another "party". Granted that was necessary at the time to get rid of Dave Barrett, but the downside was it turned out to be a 'reverse takeover'.

And Social Credit became just a nostalgic label-of-convenience to coalesce under for another bunch of wannabe MLA's that stood for nothing other than getting their snouts in the trough.

The original Socred ideas still hold the best solution for getting us out of the financial mess we're presently getting ourselves deeper and deeper into. Only now more so than ever, since we're no longer the great treasure trove of undeveloped resources we once were, with a seller's market to send them out into.
NDP has always been for the people and the people need to have more say! They are a new group of people from 10 years ago. I just want to see the look on Cambells face when he's not invited to his own party 2010.
"In Partnership with the Federal Government and Municipalities?" (from goverment website) Doesn't that attach a number of conditions that may prohibit the projects from moving ahead? Ask the folks in Mackenzie and Ft. St. James how their municipal coffers look?
I would be very interested in knowing how many of these same projects would be moving ahead if any of the other parties got elected? (NDP) What are their plans? They only have a few months to tell us. Now would be a pretty good time to show us their plan.
Good question Chester..but the NDP does not have a "plan"
Never did,never will.
They simply sit back and wait for an unpopular government like the Campbell Liberals to shoot themselves in the head and then pray like hell they will pull off a win out of all the animosity flying around.
And I completely agree with socredible...the old Social Credit party that we lived under for so many years no longer exists and never will again, unfortunately.
It would be a poor clone of the present Liberal government and nothing more, and that we DON'T need!
It is a whole new ball game with a very different set of political rules and economic conditions.
And partnerships with federal governments(or provincial) and municipalities will do very little for small communities like Fort St.James,MacKenzie,or any other town with a limited population.
Not enough votes to be of any consequence, and they will get maybe's and outright lies.
Anything north of Hope gets a token amount of lip service and veiled promises of money when the writ is dropped.
It has always been so and this time around, we have the Olympics to contend with as well.
We know where the priorities are which make political promises all the more hollow right now.
We know it is money that will quickly disappear should the results at the ballot box not seal the deal, and given the gross cost of the Olympic mess,it will likely disappear anyway.
As diplomat mentioned, the Cancer Clinic was a prime example of political whim and spin, according to where they figure it will grab the most support and attention.
That being the case, politicians can say whatever they like and Campbell is no exception!
He is fighting to regain control before the ballot in May which makes him very dangerous in terms of promises made.
But that doesn't mean we have to believe him!
Why are all the mice keep on electing Cats, black Cats, white Cats but Cats they are?
Well, do you want to work under a socialist government. You might as well tell all the big industries to shut it down. Canfor and West Fraser, will lay everyone off. The government will have to start laying off workers, because everyone will leave the province. your house value will be like in the mid 90's under the communist regime.

I rather support a capitalist system that has a chance to pay for some of the social programs.

NDP took our provincial debt load of $12 billion to $37 billion dollars, and still drove our economy into the tank. The NDP still stands for the New Dumb Party, led none other than the ever useless Carole James. The best supporter the Liberal Party has is Carole James. Hang in ther Carole.

Freeenterprise- great post- if the NDP get in which I believe their is a 50/50 chance at this time- we will be #10 in ranking for have not provinces again and very quickly- they will protect their union buddies at all costs.
Same old, same old.... 'union buddies' and higher wages vs. 'global capitalists' and higher profits. Tell me, how can you have 'higher profits' with 'lower wages', dogs, when it's the spending of wages that enables the higher profits?

Does that ever dawn on you, dogs, or are you so narrowly focussed on trying to square your own accounts by trying to get everyone else to do more for less that the 'big picture' completely escapes you?

It won't be the NDP that defeats the BC Liberals, it'll be the BC Liberals that'll defeat themselves. Through abject stupidity.

The kind that's often so evident in dogs' postings.
How about a passing lane heading north of Quesnel along the 10 Mile Lake stretch. 40kph behind a loaded truck all the way up then a passing lane down hill where the cops are just waiting to give you a ticket. How about a whole bypass around Quesnel.
Scuse me, was Campbell not the last Socred? then formed Liberals?
No. Campbell was not even a 'pretend' Socred. Thank God! Though some of his caucus and holders of the less important posts in Cabinet were. He usurped the leadership of the BC Liberals from the equally hapless Gordon Wilson, who went on to found another Party with his paramour, Judy Tyabji, before joining the NDP. Where he didn't get to be leader, but served as a Cabinet Minister in Ujjal Dosanjh's government. Campbell and that Vancouver cabal that forms his "inner circle" suck around the right-wing of the Federal Liberal party. They'll never stand up for BC the way WAC Bennett used to. It's the difference between an "entrepreneur" as premier, which WAC was, and a "branch plant manager", which is all Campbell will ever be.
