Prince George City Councilor Brain Skakun says he is concerned about Gordon Campbell making a public statement in a letter posted on Opinion 250 about a new transitional housing development at 17th and Queensway. He said “I think it is premature since we as a city have not even gone through the rezoning and consultation process required by the Community Charter that Mr. Campbell and the Liberals passed in their last term of office."

The decision to buy the Backpacker motel and make public announcement before the last election was politics at its best and has done nothing to foster trust  among local residents and in particular the residents of Miller Addition-Connaught Hill area .

In a letter written May 24th to a local resident, Premier Campbell says a new transitional housing development will be constructed on the site of the former Backpacker Motel. The letter makes no mention of any other regulatory process that must be met first. Members of the Concerned Citizens group in the area say the whole idea of public consultation is a snow job and the city and province are moving to shift all of the homeless from the city into their neighbourhood.
