For the second year in a row the CN Centre has been nominated for a prestigious Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Award, “Major Facility of the Year” (under 8,000 seats).

“This nomination is a tremendous recognition”, says Glen Mikkelsen, Event and Marketing Coordinator.  “2008 was perhaps the busiest year of entertainment at the CN Centre.  With acts like Big ‘n Rich, Avril Lavigne, The Beach Boys, and The Backstreet Boys, we hosted people from around the world.  It is very exciting to have the music industry respect and acknowledge our staff’s commitment to service.”

The winner will be announced at a sold out gala in Toronto, Thursday March 12, hosted by the well known singer Lawrence Gowan. Other nominees are: Brandt Centre, Regina; Crystal Centre, Grande Prairie; Enmax Centre, Lethbridge; Essar Centre, Sault St. Marie; K-Rock Centre, Kingston; Ricoh Coliseum, Toronto; Save-On Foods Centre, Victoria.

CN Centre & Community Arenas Manager Andy Beesley said “this nomination for the second year in a row is a direct reflection on the world class expertise of our staff, with their tremendous abilities to not only transform the CN Centre into a wide variety of settings, but also the way they work with the promoters and acts in a manner that gets rave reviews”. Beesley also notes that “the great thing about this nomination is that we don’t even have any idea who has nominated us, but it’s obvious that the professionals out there think very highly of Prince George and this wonderful facility and staff we have here”.

Atta boy!
Good job folks!
I hope the nomination doesn't go unnoticed by all the folks who work at the CN Centre, and they realize that its the hard work they put into their jobs, that has garnered them this potential award.

They all work for their paycheques, either by the hour or by the month, but should be proud of their efforts, be it full-time or part-time job they do.

And all the people who are volunteers, my hat goes off to you, too.
Way to go guys and gal. thanks for the little things you do right, thats what set us apart.
Who makes the nomination, and what is it based on???

Toronto Ricoh Centre, won the award last year. Ricoh was built in 1921, maybe its based on age. (:
Maybe one day we'll also be nominated in their "Performing Arts Center of the Year" category :)
Maybe the voting process was based on dually diesel pickups per capita.....we win hands down!!!!
.
Congratulations, Prince George!

And good luck for the future. People especially need the performing arts in tough times. Way to go!
