Prince George, B.C.- The owner of the Chances  Gaming Centre in Prince George, John Major, says there  is still plenty of interest being shown in that building at 7th and Quebec.
The building is being offered for sale, or lease as Major is moving the electronic bingo facilities to his Treasure Cove Casino site at Highways 97 and 16.

“Everyone who looks at the Chances building loves it” says Major, “There have been several who have been looking to lease space and certainly if the building had a tenant it would be much easier to sell.” At this point though, Major says the interest has been talk, nothing firm, although he remains confident he will be able to find a buyer for the building which is not even a year old.
The $15 million dollar Chances Gaming Centre opened on March 26th last year, but three months down the road, the owner applied to have the gaming licence moved. He said despite having plenty of electronic bingo stations and slot machines, the Centre was losing money.
The new facility being added to the Treasure Cove Casino will be smaller in scale. John Major says he hopes to officially open the new gaming centre on June 19th.

PERFORMING CENTER......not that we need one
How about converting it to an RCMP building,it has underground parking and all the up to date communication devices not to mention it's right downtown.
It would probably cost the taxpayers 3-6 million to convert the building.
That's a great idea cobrasnake. Wonder why our city council didn't think of that. Perfect location too.
They did not think about it because their heart is set on borrowing and spending 52 million plus on a new building for the RCMP.....This day and age the 52 million will balloon up to 75 million on the tax payers dime. IMO
That's funny! Cops taking the robbers and gang members down the new RCMP building to take their Chances! Roll the dice and Bingo! They are out of there! Whee!
Shellshadow is probably right, and cobrasnake has the best idea. I have not been inside the Chances facility so have no idea about it's layout, but assume that it could be converted to a lot of different uses.
metalman.
What people forget is that Majors is committed to build 6 townhouse style housing units on the Quebec street and 6th Avenue corner. I blieve he received an extension of that from the City, but has not been released from that committment.

The question then is, if he manages to sell or lease it to someone, will the City get completion of that contract as agreed to?

The building is right accross the street from the Inn of the North. I hear the hotel is looking for a space to increase their conference capacity. Of course, I am sure the price would have to be right.
This is one ugly building. Who would want it???.

Its across the street from Days Inn not the Inn of the North. I think that Major originally hoped to buy Days Inn and tie it in with the gaming centre, however someone else bought the Hotel.

In any event Shell Shadow is right the City will be **Hell Bent** to build a new police station and will have no interest in converting this building. They will borrow millions for a new building on 4th and Victoria and we and our children will be stuck for the huge cost.

I am not in favour of a Performing Arts Centre, but I would bet you that the PAC people would have not interest in this building. They too want to spend millions of taxpayers money so that they can pretend that they have **culture**
The council isn’t considering the building because the RCMP wants their own building, built to their own specs plain and simple. When the debate to give the contract to the out of town contractors was in front of council it was put forward but was shot down by this current council as not possible.
"This is one ugly building. Who would want it???."

Bang on with the "ugly" part!!!

"Its across the street from Days Inn not the Inn of the North"

It is accross the street from the Days in if you cross Quebec. It is accross the street from the Inn of the North if you cross 7th. The Inn owns the parking lot. right up to 7th. The gaming centre's parking and driveway to the back are on the west side of the building. That parking is directly accross the street from the Inn's parking lot.

When changing building uses changing entries to building is no big expense in the big scheme of things.

John Majors did want a hotel there. He did not put all his eggs in one basket by relying on buying the Day's Inn to be able to associate a hotel with the gaming facility. He took care of that in another way.
Like I said before. It looks like a tin can turned inside out. While they are debating the future of the building, why not use it for a soup kitchen, drop in centre, needle exchange, food bank, temporary one night shelter with beds and if there is enough room, maybe a pawn shop somewhere on the premises to keep the flow of goods (stolen?) and cash moving in our sluggish economy? Lotsa parking underground (underwater too maybe) for all the altruistic do gooders who need to help. Something for almost everyone.
It looks better than the old bland dirty yellow brick building called City Hall.
