It looks real, but it isn't, it is a special model of a Nechako river White Sturgeon, created by a Prince George artist.
Prince George, B.C.- The Ministry of the Environment offices in Prince George are holding a treasure.
A special model of a Nechako River White Sturgeon. The model was created by Prince George resident Nino Fabro at the request of a community working group which got the funding for the project from the Habitat Stewardship Program.
These ancient fish can be found in the Nechako River and are protected by being on the “no fishing” species list. It is an Endangered Species according to the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC)..jpg)

(at right the model in it's early stages of development)
In the last 50 years, the Nechako white sturgeon population has dropped from what some scientists believe was a minimum of 5000 fish to less than 600. And the vast majority of those fish are more than 30 years old. The lack of younger fish means that sturgeon are either not reproducing successfully or that the young are not surviving to adulthood. As sturgeon do not begin spawning until they are 15 to 30 years old, the lack of young sturgeon in the Nechako means that an entire generation is already missing.
The model will be used as an educational tool in schools and will displayed at special events held by the Nechako White Sturgeon Recovery Initiative.

In this case though I say tough luck for the native rights to use modern nets for fishing the Nechako... for the sake of the sturgeon.
