Prince George, B.C.- The announcement that the Province will spend $440 million dollars realigning, widening and putting in two new bridges on the Pine Pass is music to the ears of Bruce Sutherland.

The Chair of the Northern Development Initiatives Trust says the news is a huge announcement for the entire north “It’s a pipeline (Highway 97 trough the Pine Pass) to Northern Development” says Sutherland.

The Pine Pass has proven to be an obstacle for companies wanting to service  the gas and oil patch of North eastern B.C. “This $40 million dollars is going to make a big difference for us right through to 100 Mile House” says Sutherland “It’s opening up an economic driver to the rest of the province instead of it going to Grande Prairie and Edmonton.”

The Northern Development Initiatives trust had paid part of the cost of a study on the economic impact of improvements to the Pine Pass.

Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon says the work will start as soon as the weather conditions allow.

Kind of like 4 laning hwy 97 from PG to Trash Creek.
"...Province will spend $440 million dollars...This $40 million dollars is going to make a big difference..."

Quite a difference between those two numbers...how much is it REALLY? Or is it over the next eleven years?

Confusing.
diplomat:
don't worry about the 40 mil.
By the time the project is complete, it will be 100 million, there will be a toll, it will have several slides, and snow clearing will cost three time as much due to a wider road to clear.
