Prince George, B.C.- The federal government has given the Prince George Airport Authority a grant of $227,550 to market the advantages of using the new extended runway at YXS.

The funds will be used to develop a marketing plan, attend trade shows, produce marketing materials and redesign the Airport’s website.

The project will promote the airport as an air carrier refuelling stop, a backhaul for cargo and a cargo transfer site.

Airport Authority Chair, Jim Blake, says with the decline in the world’s economy, there are fewer cargo planes in the air, so Prince George no longer has the advantage of reduced congestion as a selling point. (click on photo at right for video clip)

YXS  still has some issues to resolve with  Federal agencies, including making Prince George a free trade zone, but Blake is optimistic.

The apron refuelling site is expected to  be ready in June of thisyear.

Yes, they "might" come....
but they "might not" either....
This has been hyped up to a frenzie
not sure who buys it anymore.....
I am very skeptical.....
So us taxpayers have paid close to 35 million for the runway project, and we are not going to charge anyone to land ( as per previous articles ) and use the run way. So how are we ever going to recoup $35 million or make a profit ? Just the yearly maintenance on all that blacktop is going to be expensive. Oh right, the Airport Improvement Fee ! Nice that I will have to pay a second time for this runway. Too bad you can't even walk the parking lot most days in the winter time, get out there without having to go up stairs, or not even a corner store to purchase some gum before the flight.
lunarguy, you're spot on with your comments. Especially about the parking lot. What a shameful thing that is. And they've jacked up the costs to park, again, since they've put the new entrance in.

And for the size of the airport, what a lack of excitement when you walk in the doors. Its a bland place with no soul.

what has a federal free trade zone have to do with cargo planes
