Flood Water Threatens Homes South Of Prince George

Home looks more like an "ark" than a  house as it sits  in the middle of  flood waters in the field.

Prince George- Water continues to rise along highway 97 south about 4 kilometres south of 15 Mile Road threatening at least two homes.

The water appears blocked by the highway and is making its way under the road.

A neighbour says the house in the picture above has been vacant on and off during the past few months. He says someone came and cleared the driveway a few weeks ago, but he along with other neighbours do not know who now owns the property which they say has changed hands several times in the past two years.

The Regional District says it will assess the situation today.

Opinion 250 was unable to reach the Ministry of Transportation for comment.

Good photos... major lake forming on the East side of 97S... considerable catchment area.

We noticed this same condition existed last year at this debris plugged culvert... odd that MOT or YRB did not mark the spot for attention.

Also noticed last night that the upper bridge on Redrock Road West is under water as a result of the ice and debris obstruction at the railway culvert just downstream.... should be fun to clean up.

So sad for anyone in this kind of situation. My heart goes out to these people. :{
Last year about this time I saw an older man putting sand bags around this house. It looked like a bit late to do this as the water was already there to the house. Looks worse this year. This house appears to have a basement as there is lower windows on the "gully" side. When we went by there a couple of weeks ago I said to my husband, I hope the same thing doesnt happen again.
My heart breaks every time I drive past this house. The water is now up to the top rail of the fence. Regional district, YRB, or MOT is sure taking their time assessing this situation. This is someone's home and investment who obviously pay taxes. The water level is not far from flowing over highway 97. Behind this home in the fields is a wall of water.

Surely someone could go out and unblock a few culverts, as was done on Red Rock Road West a few days ago.
