Prince George, B.C.- Localized flooding continues in the City of Prince George and the Regional District of Fraser Fort George.
The Prince George Fire Rescue services responded to flooding in the Parkridge Heights area over the weekend. The high snow load has been melting rapidly swelling most of the local creeks and exceeding the capacity of the culverts to drain the high water volume. The result has flooded parts of Gauthier Subdivision and Bilnor Road.
Highways and City crews have been working to clean the grates and culvert intakes.
The cooler temperatures on Sun have slowed the melting and allowed the culverts to drain a lot of the excess water reducing the amount of flooding.
There are high water levels in several areas throughout the Regional District, with water over the Old Cariboo Highway, rip rap had to be put in place on Highway 97 south at Patterson Road, and the Regional District continues to keep a close watch on  the  Salmon Valley and the Mud River areas.
The RDFFG activated its emergency operations centre over the weekend, and took several calls says external relations manager Renee McCloskey “We weren’t overwhelmed by the number of calls, but we did take several calls from residents asking questions and looking for assistance.” Sandbags were delivered to one home.
Anyone still needing assistance or looking for information can call the Regional District Emergency Operations Centre at  250-960-4401

Went out to the redrock flood on Friday and got a few pictures of the bridge, deck is under a meter or two of water, and the highway, about 6 to 10 cm of water flowing across the highway.
Apparently, the Willow River Bridge on the Upper Fraser Hwy is in danger of being closed down today due to ice chunks bashing the pilings. YRB is on the scene now and will be driving pilings tomorrow.
The pond off of Hwy16 west and Gauthier Rd has completely flooded the pedestrian culvert under this highway. It is the only way for the children on the pond side of the highway can get across to Vanway Elm School.
The intersection lights are not controlled by pedestrian buttons so kids are unable to change the lights to cross. They are running across whenever they get the chance. Like the youth who need to cross to catch the school bus to CHSS.
We called the City last week and they said it was YRB's responsibility. YRB has not been responsive either. But in the meantime, a child can get hurt!
You would think this would be a priority!!
If you want YRBs attention, phone them, fax them, and keep note of time. If they do not call you back, and inform of you of their intentions, in a reasonable length of time. Then take this information to the Ministry of Highways. This really gets them excited.

Thanks for the advice He Spoke!

This is exactly what happened on highway 97 S last week. Regional district said it was not their responsibility, YRB said same thing. Meanwhile everyone watched the water at the log house build up and up til it starting taking out driveways and the highway.

The log house was a beautiful place until this started happening, and its only happened in the last 2 years. Something is not right.
