Man Who Died in Crash was Surrey Resident

Prince George, B.C.- Investigators are now releasing the name of the young male who died in a motor vehicle collision on Highway #97, north of Prince George on Friday.

Twenty  two year old Christopher Charles Balmforth of Surrey, B.C. was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

He was a passenger in a 1991 Mercury Topaz, being driven northbound on Highway #97 by his father, when it crossed the centre line and struck three vehicles. The initial collision was a sideswipe type collision with the commercial transport, followed by a head-on collision with the GMC pilot truck, which was following the transport truck and finally with a Toyota pick-up truck which was following the pilot truck.

The driver of the Mercury Topaz, from Delta, B.C., remains in critical but stable condition in the Prince George Regional Hospital.

The driver of the GMC pilot truck sustained minor injuries in the collision, was treated at the Prince George Regional Hospital and released later that day.

The driver of the commercial transport unit and the two occupants of the Toyota pick-up truck sustained no injuries in this crash.

The Prince George Integrated Provincial Traffic Unit and the BC Coroner's Service continue to investigate this crash, in an attempt to establish its contributing factors. Mechanical inspections, damage evaluations, statements and other investigative requirements are being completed.

Weather is not believed to be a factor in this incident.
