Prince George, B.C.  –– The College Heights Secondary School’s Leadership class will be getting a donation from the College of New Caledonia Students’ Union .
CNC's Student Union is providing a $2000 donation to support anti bullying initiatives at the schools in School District #57.

“We feel to make change we must lead by example, which is also why were excited to pursue this initiative,” said Valentine Crawford, Chairperson of the College of New Caledonia Students’ Union. “We were able to show that anti-bullying is important at any level of education you are in and now, to have a leadership program continue on with anti-bullying activities we couldn’t be more excited.”

The CNC Students’ Union began fundraising money for anti-bullying in the lead up to the day of pink which was held on February 17, 2009 with a commitment to match up to $1000 raised.

The College Heights Senior Secondary’s Leader class has pledged to produce a graphic comic ( page from comic shown at right) that addresses bullying and after it is published it will be shared across School District #57. In addition, the money will support the creation of a website that ties in with the comic that will allow students to link to other resources.

“We would also like to thank our coalition partnership who donated to this worthy cause,” said Crawford. “It’s true that leadership and partnerships such as these can truly have a positive impact on students and education in our community, and we hope these students will continue such traditions when they take our places here in the Students’ Union.”

The Students’ Union received donations from the Faculty Association of the College of New Caledonia, the Pulp and Paper Workers of Canada Local 29, the Prince George and District Labour Council and the College of New Caledonia.

This is wonderful news. So much of the news of the day is negative and this is so positive.
Bullying affects all levels of society and to have students stepping up to the plate to stop it will affect young people into their adulthood.
This may well be the most discernable positive step Prince George has taken in the last twenty years.
Thank you to the students who started it and thanks to all concerned. You are special citizens of this City.
Wow, a youth-driven project! It will take youth leadership to adequately address bullying.
I feel very proud of these youth taking this initiative to help their peers.
