Elected Yes, But There Is A Message

It is important for re-elected Mayor Colin Kinsley to remember that he did not receive the majority vote in this past week’s election.

There were more people voting against Kinsley (8801) than voted for him (8650).  The numbers  shold be sufficient to send a message to the Mayor that the majority of people in this city do not like the manner in which he has headed the city and he should be aware.

Unfortunately, as with all politicians, there is a propensity to simply say "I got by the post first , so I’m the leader."  Gordon Campbell’s popularity fell sharply in the last provincial election and whether the Premier has taken that election result to heart is left open for conjecture.

Kinsley has already said this will be his last term and so trying to convince him that the majority of the people would like a change in his approach will be daunting indeed.

I'm Meisner, and that is one man's opinion.

Kinsley will not be at all concerned about any negative comments re his loss of popularity.
He is in for 3 more years of good wages and a hefty expense account, and after that he can just pension out as he certainly will be of age to do so.
He can sit there and giggle, as he plays the role, for 3 years and the taxpayers can chew their fingernails wondering what expense will hit their wallets re decisions forthcoming from city hall that will cost-and the taxpayers will pay.
$38,000.00 for a few people to go to Italy. Isn't Colin going also? How can he forego this little jaunt. Maybe he can take George. Just add on a few dollars.
Was anyone in the know really surprised he had his party at the Treasure Cove???
Isn't there a few more favors on the line?
Rumors do have a way of getting nasty.
But I pay attention anyhow!!
Colin thinks big, he doesn't want to be bothered with the small stuff, like decent sidewalks, streets and roads that are properly maintained and so forth! He prefers to put 5 million dollars into a new mega project rather than fix half a million cracks and potholes at ten dollars a pop! Where is the glory in fixing potholes???

Colin said during an interview on the Ben Meissner show that "PG has the best streets and roads of any city of similar size in northern Canada."

It seems we ought to be grateful for the neglected infrastructure!

Once the politicians are elected they are cruising at a higher altitude than us ordinary folks who gave them the opportunity to do something worthwhile.

It isn't very hard to become cynical about the same old same old.

By the way, why does fixing a pothole always result in a lump that is a couple of inches higher than the rest of the road surface?

(Nobody knows.)
IMO something needs to be done about the electoral system. Maybe this is a time for the city council to look at a precident setting bi-law that funds losers of close races to challenge the electoral system for faults in the electoral system or fraud in the vote counting process.

Clearly it would only have taken 5 people to go and vote at all voting poll stations in town to turn the election and there was nothing stopping them? If 5 people can turn an election why not a hundred?

The system is flawed. In the meantime I suggest a 2% bi-law were any council candidate that comes withing 2% of electoral victory gets a couple of grand to fund a count varification process. Any mayoral candidate that comes within 10% of the mayor's seat should be afforded the same justice for the votes that they recieved.

Why does it have to be an all or nothing in a system that clearly can be circumvented be a few people without anyone the wiser?
Diplomat blame the city worker for that one. I've worked as a paver before in the past.

If the pot hole is not completely slurried then it is not sealed and water will again get underneith and lift the pot hole into existance in short order. I've watched the city crews at work and they do not take care to do the job properly, but rather they just throw the stuff in the hole.

When they fill pot holes with pavement they throw down a little extra to keep water from pooling, but a better way to deal with it for long term results would be to compact the pot hole flush with a vibrator and remove the exess pavement.

It comes down to bad logistics, and lazy city workers that are not motivated to do the job right.
Mayor Colin Kinsley must have some vision or goals that he would like to see come to pass over the next 3 years. Does anyone know what it is?

What kind of legacy will Colin leave our children and grandchildren?

What will everyone be saying about the contribution Mayor Colin Kinsley made to the quality of life for the citizens of Prince George 20 years from now?

What did he do about the homeless, drug abuse, prostitution, addictions, fair wages, adequate employment, abortions and unwanted children, seniors, care of the sick and elderly?

What contribution did Colin's character, values, laws and example have on the citizens of PG?

The role of Mayor could have a significant impact on our community.

The consequences of his leadership and example will affect our future in many ways.

What kind of influence, encouragement, guidance and direction are you going to provide him? He needs our help. Chester
Oh Yeah!! Sure! Right on Chester!
And just who voted him in again?
None other than the residents of Prince George.
Give me a break!
Was it an act of ignorance, lack of knowledge, don't give a damn, or just plain STUPIDITY??
So, cry a river, for all the good it will do.
He is and was "the people's choice."
So live with it.
Methinks Chester was being facetious.

In any event we have to remember that there were 8 Council member elected and the Mayor only gets a vote if their is a tie. If we concentrate all our energies on the Mayor we will allow the Councillors to abdicate their responsibilities.

They have the responsibility along with the Mayor to ensure that this City is run responsibly.

Lets watch how they vote on some of the upcoming issues, and if necessary get on their case.
C'mon Pal, or are you the eternal optimist?
If you recall, there is practically all the same old, same old, on council.
Do you think an attitude adjustment has taken place because of an election??
The possibility of taking any of them to task over decisions they make is a pipe dream.
Anyhow, dream on, and hopefully there will not be too many nightmare situations in the next three years.
The citizens asked for whatever is dished out to them.
I, personally, will enjoy the show.
Let it begin!
One would think that Gypsy has given up hope that he or she has no influence over our city Fathers.

Well, I haven't given up hope and I will continue to share my values, opinions and wisdom with our leaders. If I don't, others will.

And I am an optimist. If I can provide a word of encouragement in a time of need, it's worth it. If I can share some of my own values as a guide, then it's worth it. If I can share shome of my wisdom, then I've done my part.

On the other hand, if I am only going to complain, ridicule, attack and criticize our leaders, I can't really expect to have much of an effect on them, can I?
Chester

Ps. I haven't agreed with many of the decisions our civic leaders have made, but I have kept my opinions to myself to long. It's time to provide some input so at least I can say I have put forward my opinions. I am thankful for this venue to put my thoughts to print. I don't expect everyone to agree with me.
WOW!! I am impressed!!
I will be more than anxious to view how someones so called "wisdom" has an effect on this Mayor and council.
Amuse me-I do so like a good laugh.
I must side with Gypsy on this one--after all, I don't drink in the same establishment as Mr. Kinsley and consequently have no influence on his actions or reasoning. Alas!
>>On the other hand, if I am only going to complain, ridicule, attack and criticize our leaders, I can't really expect to have much of an effect on them, can I?
Chester<<

There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism and a bit of sarcasm thrown in for good measure. Facts are facts, potholes are awful! One day Colin will take up the offer to become a Victoria or Ottawa based politician, I am certain. Then, good old PG will only be a distant memory. The cost overrun of the 2010 Winter Olympics doesn't bode well for us and our poor infrastructure.
PG will be kept on the back burner, our electing THREE Liberal MLAs notwithstanding.

What follows disgust with political shenanigans? Voter apathy and eventual election boycott. At least, when citizens gripe and *** it means they are still giving a darn.
Chester. I like 99% of your postings on here but please get off the "abortion" thing. I think you make a lot of sense in most other things you say, but abortion is legal, and a whole lot better than some crack addicted mother trying to raise a child that you and I will have to support for the rest of its life.
A woman addicted to crack who gets pregnant, then she sensibly decides for the better of the unborn to abort? Don't think so. A woman addicted to crack can't really think outside the box that well. However, a well meaning, educated, younger or older foolish woman who messes up her birth control, now she has enough sense to go get an abortion, cause it's legal.
